Biography

Lucky Peterson was discovered by blues legend Willie Dixon when he was three years old, released his first record at five and soon after appeared on The Tonight Show. Trained by keyboardists Bill Doggett and Jimmy Smith, Peterson went on to play behind Little Milton, Bobby “Blue” Bland and Kenny Neal. On return from the “Young Blues Giants” tour of Europe, he signed first with Alligator, then… Read more in Amazon's Lucky Peterson Store

5.0 out of 5 stars an underrated bluesman, July 10, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Move (Audio CD)
Blues Revue magazine proclaimed Lucky Peterson's "Move" as the best blues CD of 1998. I was intrigued, but thought the might be overrating the CD. I was wrong. This is a great CD from beginning to end. If your a devoted blues admirer, or just a casual fan, this CD will satisfy. The opening track "Your the one for me" is a song you picture being performed live in an intimate blues club. The title song showcases excellent slide guitar work. Peterson adds his own flavor to remakes of "It's your thing" and "Purple Rain," while maintaining the integrity of the original recording. "I'm back again" is a crafty, straight ahead blues song. "Move" is indeed one of the best blues CD's of 1998, maybe the best. Peterson has been underrated for some time, but should receive a great deal of acclaim for this CD. He should be a major contender for Handy and Grammy awards.

There can't be too many other contemporary blues artists who'd be willing to rework Prince's (or should that be TAFKAP?) "Purple Rain" and make it their own - but Lucky Peterson does just that. He's helped throughout the album by a band that stick with him through all the changes, Butch Bonner on 2nd Guitar, Johnny B Gayden on bass, and Dennis Chambers on drums- they are superb. Peterson too revels in the chance to spread out over a range of instruments. He also gets to show his composing talents with "Move" and "Move on you"(co-written with Bonner) being very strong. However, for me the two best tracks are a reworking of Robert Cray's "Don't you even care" and the Isleys "It's your thing" being given a makeover that transforms the song into something entirely different to other versions. All in all a great album, and a great introduction to an ever growing talent that is Lucky Peterson's.

4.0 out of 5 stars Transformational, December 2, 2008

Lucky Peterson has been singing since he was a child who was one of the groups that I grew up listening to. Even at six years old his singing was very impressive because of his voice quality and timing. I had not heard from him for quite sometime (long story), so I was looking through some music in September 2008 and saw that he was still singing blues. The CDs was great and I was impressed with his range and versalitility throughout the three cds purchased. Great!
