Makes my 3-year-old laugh every time!,
By
This review is from: Move Over, Rover! (Hardcover)
I'll never forget the first time I read this book to my 3-year-old daughter - she started laughing about halfway through the book, and by the end we were both giggling up a storm. We've read this book every night before bed ever since. Needless to say, this is currently her favorite book.
The text is simple, consise and short, which is nice for the parent who may be reading this book at the end of the day. And the illustrations are captivating. They draw my daughter in to the story as she looks for Rover, the cat, the squirrel, the racoon, the snake and the mouse on selected pages. And the part that consistently gets her giggling is the repeated rhyming text in the middle of the book that always ends with, "Move over, Rover!"

New Favorite,

My twins received this book when they were 18 months old and have loved it! Now they tell each other, "move over, Rover" and "skit-skat, Cat" all the time they love to talk about the stinky skunk. I have since been giving this book as a 2-year-old birthday present and everyone we've given it to says how much their children enjoy it, too. With great illustrations and fun concepts, we highly recommend this book.

As a former school librarian, I can say I love this picture book. The second time we read it, my 3-year-old grandchildren & I were delighted to realize that the skunk is visible in the doghouse all along--if you look closely.

Great for all ages,

This is a great book. The illustrations are wonderful. I think the age range should be lowered to 18 months and up. My 18 mo son loves it and seems to understand the plot. He loves holding his nose when the stinky skunk appears. It is great for teaching animals. The first page has all of the animals pictured and you can have your child search and point them all out to you.

KIDS LOVE HIS ONE AND ADULTS LOVE TO READ IT TO THEM...Absolutely Delightful.,
This review is from: Move Over, Rover! (Hardcover)
This is one of those book meant for the very young that will just make you feel good reading it with the little one and I have yet to find one of the wee ones that did not get kick out of having this work read to them.
This is one of those progressive books that builds and builds. The rhythm the author uses, while at first glance is simple, has a rather soothing effect: Rover's in the Doghouse, chewing on a bone. What a day to romp and play! Too bad he's all alone. Oh, my, look at the sky! Thunder! Lightning! Mighty frightening! As Rover seeks shelter in this doghouse (oh my, how boring!), he is joined b first an orange cat..."Move over, Rover!"Then a raccoon, then a squirrel, then a blue jay, then a snake, then a mouse..."Tight fit. Might split. Sorry, mouse. Full House! All are warm and snuggly, all are dry...the storm rages on. And then along comes a skunk! Evacuation! The sun then comes out.... "Rover's in the doghouse, chewing on a bone. Soaked and sopping, tail flip-flopping, happy he's alone!" The big bright illustrations by Jane Dyer are rather remarkable in the way they "pop" and are, upon close examination, quite detailed with all those special little touches that make them rather special. The illustrations and the text go perfectly. This is a delightful work. The age group is about right here, but as another reviewer has pointed out, and I tend to agree with her, the age limit could very well be lowered here all the way down to 18 months or so. Between the rhyming text and the wonderful illustrations, even a very small child will be aware of what is going on. High marks for this work! Don Blankenship The Ozarks

This is a very fun book! I first encountered it in the Manhattan Children's Museum and liked it so well I ordered it the day we returned home from vacation. It is fun for me to read to my son and he enjoys following along whe I do as well as making up his own stories to the pictures when he "reads" it to me. Very cute, very fun, very recommended.

Just a wonderful story. Learned about it when it was a selection at the local Audubon center for reading time. Bought it for my 2 year old grandson, the book encourages discussion with your child, just a super selection.
