Product Description

Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa
Your favorite castaways are back – still together and still lost! One of the top movies of the year, DreamWorks Animation’s Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa is “even better than the first!” (Mark Hyman, FOX-TV). You’ll laugh out loud as this outrageous comedy takes you on an African adventure like no other.

Amazon.com

The sequel to the animated movie Madagascar gives more of everything audiences loved in the first movie: More of the penguins; more of Julian, king of the lemurs; more musical bits of classic rock; and many, many more lions, zebras, hippos, and giraffes. In the first film, a quartet of coddled zoo animals found themselves shipwrecked on the island of Madagascar in a misguided effort to return them to the wild. InMadagascar: Escape 2 Africa, a failed attempt to fly back to New York maroons Alex the lion (voiced by Ben Stiller), Marty the zebra (Chris Rock), Gloria the hippo (Jada Pinkett Smith), and Melman the giraffe (David Schwimmer) in an animal preserve on the African continent, accompanied by the four deranged penguins and the lunatic lemur king (deliriously voiced by Sacha Baron Cohen, Borat). By wild coincidence, this is where Alex was born--and where his father is still the alpha lion, and where his malevolent uncle seeks to take over (let's call this an homage to The Lion King). The other beasts have their own story arcs, but really it's all an excuse for daffy comic bits. Though the result is disposable, it's also entirely entertaining. The action sequences pop with dizzying spectacle; though some jokes are mainstream fodder, more often they're surprisingly quirky and engagingly oddball. This is the best kind of cotton candy filmmaking--it dissolves into nothing, but it's oh-so-sweet to the taste. --Bret Fetzer

Our whole family enjoyed this movie.

I was BOARD during the M2 movie because there was too much talking and not enough gags like the first.

The Madagascar 2 movie is a great flick, full of fun and witty lines. If you liked the first movie, this is more of the same, if not better and probably worthy of five stars. The second DVD featuring two Nick Penguin shorts for a total of about 25 minutes of video, isn't worth the additional cost, in my opinion. The first Madagascar release had a Penguin animation short included as an extra on the movie disc, whereas the new one has two shorts and charges the buyer for the priviledge. And frankly, I thought that the two penguin cartoons, while a bit amusing, were a bit of a disappointment. If one is a REAL fan of the Nick Penguins, then you'll need to get this DVD set. Otherwise, I would recommend just getting the main feature and save yourself the $7.

Yes there is only 24 minutes (two different short stories) of penguin antics on the DVD but for an extra 4 bucks what do you want. If you like the penguins you will be amused. King Julien and Maurice are in the second story carrying-on with typical shenanigans of not knowing what a camera is...funny stuff! "After much deep and profound brain things inside my head, I have decided to thank you for bringing peace to our home."

I have enjoyed this movie. Great for children and adults. Even the youngest in our family, under 2, loved watching it and danced to the songs. Shows great relationships between characters - good values.

This is a movie that parents will enjoy as much as their kids. It is very funny with some great characters. The film itself is beautiful - really colorful and looks great on the tv.

As for the extra dvd "The Penguins of Madagascar" it is well worth the extra few dollars. The writing is hilarious. I believe these are previews of the new Nick TV show that premiers in March. I, the parent, can't wait to see it! My children laughed all the way thru and are also excited to see the new show when it airs.

There is also an "extra" on this Penguin video that is really adorable. Alex the lion teaches you some of his dance moves and then puts them all together with a catchy song from the movie. My kids love to dance along and it is a riot to watch them. I can't even count how many times they've played this dance video. Its great exercise for them too!

If you've seen the first one, its a must to see this. Gives you a brief history of how Alex ended up in Central Park Zoo, Melman finally revealing his true feelings to Norman and Marty realizing his being unique from other zebras. They start off in their quest of going back home to NY with the King Julien, Maurice & Mort tagging along and the Penguins at the helm of the controls of the makeshift airplane. When they crash landed somewhere in Africa, it is where Alex reconnects with his family and the adventure begins for the rest of the bunch. This is a totally entertaining sequel although I agree with one reviewer that the Penguins dvd packaged here with the movie wasnt much, wasnt worth the extra cost. Overall, I highly recommend this movie! Kids and adults alike are going to love it!

Even though I think Madagascar is a little bit better than this one, still it's a funny movie.

I bought this double dvd package for my grandkids (that's what I tell people anyway). The Madagascar 2 movie is very, very good. The levels of humor are many and some of the references (political, racial and otherwise) are very, pointed and funny for grown-ups - way beyond a child's comprehension.

They did a good job in keeping continuity with the characters introduced in Madagascar 1.

The penguins are funny - The Penguin dvd with the Penguins is funny, but, most of the dvd is a Wild Kingdom program - the grandkids were quick to point out the Penguin segment has already been shown on TV. For the money - get the single Madagascar 2 movie.
