5.0 out of 5 stars Vain moves on., October 10, 2002
By kuroneko1 "kuroneko1" (Istanbul Turkey) - See all my reviews
Move on it is the third album by Vain. Second album "all those strangers" never fully got released despite the circulation of some advance promotional copies which caused a lot of fuss. This did not put Dave & co off and as a revenge they came out stronger with move on it.
Album is a very good example of sleaze rock which is unlike many of band's peers, extremely original and melancholic. Dave's vocals and lyrics are miles away from the glam cliches which can be summarised as not screaming "lets jump to the bed and get it on honey" type of lyrics while guitars thundered madly and make ups went off with sweat quickly. There are no embarassing songs about beast or dressing chicks up or having a party whole year long.Yes, songs are mostly about love, hopelesness, clash with cold world and melancholy but they are in some sense realistic and intelligent without being pretentious. Dave's melancholic voice and band's rythm section really deliver the goods with any tempo you can imagine. Band is by no means a depressing group of students and they know how to make pump adrenaline. "Breakdown" is a typical vain song with dave's melancholic as well as sticky sweet voice. "Whisper" is the best song in the album with its up tempo rythm but regretful as well as overjoyed attitude. "Icy's dreams", "get up" and "crumbled glory" as well as the rest of album really and truly rocks. The thing I love about the Vain is their strong link with reality and real life. Band never acted as the kings of the world and decided to walk in their own road. Even their smash hit album "no respect" was thousand times different than bands like crue, poison or faster pussycat etc. They always had a unique class and they were always humble musically even in those days when they used to make Gunsnroses blush crimson red on stage.
Move on it carries the tradition of first two albums with a fresher and modern sound. If you are a Glam/sleaze fan dont even think about not having it. Fans of melodic rock and even modern rock can also dig this 90's album which still sounds fresh.
Vain is a criminally over looked and under rated band. You may not have heard about them but they were there before gunsnroses fired their first album. They are still here and hopefully always will be.
Check them out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing cd, January 29, 2002
Well it was almost 6yrs before we heard anything from the Vain camp and then out of the blue they released move on it.
What a great cd this is, Turn up the volume sit back and listen and feel the passion and anger of my ticket outta here or the tragedy of Ivy's dreams. This album seems to sum up all the emotions and well I totally reccomend this to anyone who loved No Respect which alas is deleted now.........
