Mitchell and Church explain just how easy it can be. With just a little commitment and a little know-how, you too can make yourself feel like a champ!"
--Chuck Norris

"Dieters of varying fitness levels who are tired of the same-old "miracle cures" may find this refreshing." (Library Journal Online, April 8, 2008)

From the Inside Flap

Exercise can decrease your risk of heart disease, improve your memory and your mood, help you sleep better, and slow down the aging process. And yet most of us can find plenty of excuses for not exercising. In this surprising new guide from the medical director of the world-renowned Cooper Clinic, you'll discover how, in just minutes a day, you can dramatically improve your health—without running a marathon, joining a gym, or even breaking a sweat.

Move Yourself offers an innovative, easy-to-follow prescription for infusing your daily life with just a few minutes of low-dose physical activity—and reaping big health benefits from the start. Dr. Tedd Mitchell of the Cooper Clinic, fitness research expert Dr. Tim Church, and veteran health writer Martin Zucker present a manageable program that will have you up and moving, eating better, and feeling great.

First, you'll get a clear understanding of how physical activity protects you from a wide range of common diseases, as well as never-before-published information about the ways movement improves quality of life. Then you'll customize your plan by selecting one of the three Move Yourself programs packed with cardio, nutrition, and weight-resistance advice tailored to your needs.

Filled with lessons from the authors' thousands of patients and study participants, this medically sound program gives you the tools to:

  • Start logging your daily activity

  • Add movement easily into your daily routine

  • Get moving when you're tired, traveling, busy, or depressed

  • Optimize your cardiovascular health

  • Strengthen your muscles safely

  • Increase your joint flexibility

As you get healthier with more movement, you'll make better eating choices with the book's 14-day menu suggestions. You'll also get plenty of inspiration for sticking with the program and staying positive. Being more active doesn't have to be difficult, time-consuming, or expensive. All it takes is the desire and support you need to Move Yourself.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eye opening info about my health and (lack of!) fitness, April 4, 2008
By
A. Roberts (Midpines, Ca USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Move Yourself: The Cooper Clinic Medical Director's Guide to All the Healing Benefits of Exercise (Even a Little!) (Hardcover)
I consider myself fairly active and reasonably smart when it comes to nutrition - however, after reading this book, I was surprised by how much I still had to learn. If you weren't actively exercising and eating healthy before, this book will definitely convince you that it is in your own best interest to start doing so immediately!

The authors use their research to describe the undeniable benefits of fitness, even at the most basic levels and offer lots of simple tips for becoming more fit. This book isn't about training for a marathon; it is about incorporating even the smallest amounts of exercise into your life on a daily basis. One of the easiest things I did was to buy a very inexpensive pedometer and see how "sedentary" I actually was... Honestly, my results were shocking. I want to be a healthy example to my children and this book gives me the tools to do just that.

The book concludes with some nutrition information and sample menus. I can't believe how much more energy I have and how much better I feel following some of the authors' simple guidelines.

The focus is on fitness. And according to the authors and their extensive research, being fit helps prevent diabetes, heart disease, cancer, osteoporosis, depression - and improves memory, energy, digestion - and most importantly (at least to me!), improves quality of life.

This book is motivating, practical and incredibly easy to read.

5.0 out of 5 stars An easy & practical way to bet back on track to good health with no effort!!, May 24, 2008
This review is from: Move Yourself: The Cooper Clinic Medical Director's Guide to All the Healing Benefits of Exercise (Even a Little!) (Hardcover)
This book, along with a step counter, is the most
fabulous birthday gift you can give for sedentary
friends and relatives. The book tells you why you
better get moving OR ELSE and then shows you all the
fun ways of becoming physically active. I really
liked the way the program eases you into motion and
into higher gears.

5.0 out of 5 stars Five Stars for this book that every couch potato should get !, May 7, 2008
This review is from: Move Yourself: The Cooper Clinic Medical Director's Guide to All the Healing Benefits of Exercise (Even a Little!) (Hardcover)
I'm an active guy and I found great tips here on how to hone my exercise program. But for sedentary people, this is powerful jumpstart information that will get them moving in a fun way that incorporates activity in their daily life. I'm getting the book as birthday gifts for my slacker friends.
