Book Description

July 15, 2001
With more than three million hardcover copies sold in its first two years of publication, Who Moved My Cheese? has become an amazing best-seller, topping the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, BusinessWeek, and USA Today lists. Who Moved My Cheese? is an amusing and enlightening parable about how important it is to quickly deal with change whenever it occurs. The story takes place in a Maze where two mice, Sniff and Scurry, and two littlepeople, Hem and Haw, look for "Cheese." Cheese represents what's wanted in life, whether it's a job, a relationship, money, freedom, recognition, or spiritual peace. The "Maze" in the story represents where you search for what you want. It can be the workplace, your community, or your relationships. The Who Moved My Cheese 2002 Calendar, now in full color, breaks the story down into small, enjoyable daily doses. It also includes inspirational quotes, many of them new, from dozens of well-known people, including Albert Einstein, Lewis Carroll, Charles Darwin, Warren Buffet, Omar Bradley, and Martin Luther King Jr., as well as Dr. Johnson's thoughts and reactions to those quotes.

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T Move My Cheese!, February 2, 2002

This review is from: Who Moved My Cheese? 2002 Day-To-Day Calendar (Calendar)
Although it contains a few words of wisdom, I did not like the book. First, it presupposes that all change is good. Second, it presupposes that anyone who does not like change is simply afraid of it. Focusing on these two suppositions, the author fails to really discuss change, but merely encourages individuals to blindly accept all change and denigrates those who do not. Finally, the book is written in a remedial tone, and it does not discuss the subject of change in an intelligent and adult manner. Given these three points, the book is clearly an attempt, by the author and those organizations that use it, to get their employees to blindly accept change or be categorized as someone who will not or cannot change.

After growing up as a military brat, I spent twenty-four years in the Army; I've dealt with change all my life. I am certainly not afraid of it, and I resent the implications put forth in the book that I am. Furthermore, not all change is good; much of it is counterproductive and even harmful. No one should ever blindly accept it, but should evaluate both the motive behind it and the necessity and value of it, and then decide whether to support or fight it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Grasp the MEANING; Don't JUST read the words., November 20, 2001
This review is from: Who Moved My Cheese? 2002 Day-To-Day Calendar (Calendar)
My advice is simple: Try this book. Its a one-hour read. However, don't undertake this task while your brain is relaxing. Those that don't take something away from this book are either unfocused or require that a book meet the "weight test" to measure up. Don't allow yourself to be fooled.

Sure, this book's "story" is about 4 rodents, a maze and their quest for cheese. But the concept is much, much deeper. Personally and professionally, the concept rings true. Those looking for the easy path, the "tried-and-true" path, the concrete path, will never reach new heights. The book's parable leads the reader through the maze that is life, again, your personal or professional life.

I'll not go any further with the concept or the story as I believe each reader should experience the book and decide unilaterally. A warning: be prepared to THINK and focus on the concept. You'll not be disappointed.

I'm buying the calendar for each one of my employees in the same fashion that I bought a copy of the book for each of them.
