4.0 out of 5 stars Movement Training for Stage and Screen, April 5, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Movement Training for the Stage and Screen: The Organic Connection Between Mind, Spirit, and Body (Paperback)
This volume offers a comprehensive syllabus for the movement training of actors, focusing upon aspects such as alignment, use of breath, placement, range of movement and flexibility. Instructions for exercises are clearly set out and complemented by photographs, making it easy for a student to learn the movement sequences. The application of the movement training is set forth in a series of 'essence exercises', in which the performer physicalises an animal image (through aspects such as tempo, balance, energy) as a means of achieving a physical form for the character. The movement techniques are not that dissimilar to those found in Pisk, Penfold and others, but the photos do give this volume an added edge for those who have difficulties in following solely written instruction. What is irritating, however, are the testimonials from former students of Sabatine's; surely with a text this good, why not let the material speak for itself?
