5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent read, July 31, 2004
This review is from: The Movie (Paperback)
This book is probably the best I have ever read. It was extremely emjoyable and kept me wanting more all the time. It was hard to put it down to go to sleep, kept me up hours. Great characters and a great story line Louise Bagshawe is a genius. This was my first book from her and I definitely am going to get my hands on her other books. If they are half as good as this one was then that would do me fine.

3.0 out of 5 stars a bit of a guilty secret, April 12, 2007

Count Zero (Yokohama, Japan) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Movie (Paperback)
I came to this novel by sheer chance. I had just finished Annie Proulx's The Shipping News while travelling in Cambodia. I had Ian McEwan's Saturday waiting to be read back at home in Yokohama. I needed a novel to see me through the last few days of my trip and for on the plane. I was in Cambodia doing film research, and in the hotel book exchange corner this title seemed ominous. I read the back cover and thought, shameless snob that I am, "This is not my usual thing, but I'll give it a go..." Well, what a page-turner! It sets a cracking pace, twists and turns in all the right places, and little episodes of sex and intrigue go off like hand-grenades all around. Strong on drama, not so hot on comedy, the whole package keeps you entertained almost all the way through. I say almost, 'cos it wraps things up just a little too neatly at the end - or is that the point? Maybe I need to read more of this stuff... The Movie is an indulgence, one that I lapped up gratefully. Read the book - ironically enough, I don't think this would make a great film.

4.0 out of 5 stars A 4 1/2 STAR REVIEW, July 21, 2005
This review is from: The Movie (Paperback)
Movers and shakers rule a motion picture set in Louise Bagshawe's THE MOVIE (called Triple Feature in the U.S.A.), a fun and dishy tale of beautiful people gone bad. From the angelic ingenue to the diva extraordinaire, Bagshawe takes you on a wild ride of sins, money and passion. Yes, we've all seen it before, but Bagshawe's effective plot and colorful characters give THE MOVIE the edge it needs to stay above ground. Her Hollywood setting may clone the one of Jackie Collins, but the end-result is as wickedly readable. If her next outing is that much fun and exciting, Bagshawe will be more than welcome to move into the pop lit-dome.-----Martin Boucher
