I am a HUGE movie buff, so when I got this game as a gift I couldn't wait to play. At first everything seemed good. The directions were easy to follow and the game was fun. But as we played on, things took a turn for the worse. First, some of the answers had us going, "Huh? Really?" They didn't seem correct. Second, there were numerous questions pertaining to some movie which I'm positive no one ever saw--some straight-to-video B-film which I wouldn't doubt if the creators of the boardgame here made--as it's answer. And third, the "Huh? Really?"s were answered when we discovered there were numerous mistakes. So many in fact that you couldn't trust the answers if you didn't know for sure. The topper came when the question, "In what movie does the quote, 'You never heard of the Millennium Falcon?' come from?" The card's answer was "The Empire Strikes Back." It is not. It is from the Cantina scene in "Star Wars." And make no mistake, this game makes a point of discerning between sequels so you can't argue they meant the series. The game quickly lost all it's fun because of these things.

This review is from: Movie Mania (A Game of Famous Quotes & Questions) (Board Game)
To be honest, we have not played this game much. The fact is, we have another movie triva game that is TONS better (Name of game is 'Applause'). Movie Mania includes WAY too many quotes and WAY too many questions on the most obscure movies! My husband and I are huge movie buffs and we have played this game with huge movie buff friends and we were amazed at how many times our answers were wrong, when we were sure of the answer we gave! huh The format is great, with a lot of questions in nicely broken down categories, but the questions leave a lot to be desired. Though we have had some moderately fun times playing it, I would not recommend this game to anyone. (I bought Applause at Hollywood Video about two years ago... not sure where else you can get it though.)

I purchased this for my sister...supposed to be an "updated" version of Trivial Pursuit's Silver Screen....the game board, rules, and timer are easily understood.....the questions, however, are extremely obscure ( 0ver 20% deal with a movie called "The Hitcher"...as though the writers had seen little else)....the question re; the famous "Play It Again Sam" line in "Casablanca " is actually incorrect on the card.....the game could be a hit if the manufacturers put out an additional set of question cards for more universally seen movies...and sent a free set to owners....
