This review is from: Movie Maniacs Series 1 : Jason Voorhees (Toy)
If you're buying a Jason and throwing away the packaging then read this review as a five star rating for the figure alone, it's the packaging that brings this overall product down but I'll get to that later.

This figure is from the Jason Goes to Hell movie and is very, very fun to play with. You can actually get Jason figures from all the different Friday the 13th sequels so depending on the picture in your mind when you think of him he does undergo some physical changes as the sequels increase. By the time Jason Goes to Hell came around his skin was burnt in places and falling off in others, as was his green jump suit. That's the exactly what this figure looks like (by the way I have put up photographs in the customer images for you to check out).

You can get Jason figures with actual material clothing such as Sideshow's Friday the 13th range, including Jason Goes to Hell but they are a lot more expensive. With the cheaper versions such as this, Jason's the clothing is actually molded plastic and obviously not removable. However I would point out if you're buying Jason for your daughter/son to play with to torment her Barbie dolls or lets be even more honest, you're buying it for yourself to play with, this (or the NECA product are the way to go. Of the two this one is actually a little more durable.

However the downside to this and NECA's products is that you can't open the packaging without damaging it. However at least with this Jason you can get him out by just opening the bottom part of the blister and sliding him and the movie stand out, with NECA you have to completely destroy the packaging. Therefore you can just put some sticky tape on the bottom when you've put him back in if you want a higher resale price (this is how I bought him). However of the two cheaper Jason's NECA's displays better in the packaging, you can't even see most of the film stand when this Jason is in the packet. Plus the back of this packet is just advertising for other McFarlane products and most of them aren't even horror figures. But if you're not planning on playing with Jason and keeping him in the packaging I'd get a Sideshow one anyway.

This Jason comes with three blood covered weapons, a hand machete, axe and pole machete (spear type thing). All can be posed in his right hand (his left is open and doesn't grip any). The hand rotates (as does the left) which makes the various weapon holding look more realistic. His legs move, as do his arms, neck and waste. His arms although not moving like normal elbows do, rotate at the elbow area so the forearms can change position. This all means you can change his pose or killing stance rather dramatically and results in him having heaps of different poses. His mask does not come off but looking into his eye socket his right eye does look very realistic.

Jason doesn't come with a stand but does stand on his own without one, depending of course on how you position his legs. The movie stand is heavier than it looks and more fragile. Seems to be made of some crockery type substance. An added bonus although not something McFarlane probably thought of is the plastic the Jason figure comes in inside the blister pack also doubles up as a nice jelly/chocolate mold. Wash it first though.

Jason is one of horror's best ever characters. Of the cheaper, or ones you can play with, this is probably the best.

Other great horror creatures/character worth checking out as well are Sideshow's Griffin for HG Wells The Invisible Man and NECA's Slimer from Ghostbusters.
