5.0 out of 5 stars Tooth Fairy
This is a rather unique figure. It is based on the villian of the delayed horror flick, originally titled 'The Tooth Fairy', co-staring Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Emma Caulfield. I'm a tad dissapointed to find that the open mouth full of teeth shown on the web site is not what the Tooth Fairy has in its reality. The figure actually has a closed mouth and appears somewhat demur. Not the sort of horror figure I expected.

This is a rather unique figure. It is based on the villian of the delayed horror flick, originally titled 'The Tooth Fairy', co-staring Buffy the Vampire Slayer's Emma Caulfield. The movie went through a couple of name changes, now being titled 'Darkness Falls', which I don't find any more catchy. Apparently it was produced on a low budget, but after screening it, the studio decided they might have a better film on their hands if they inlisted Stan Winston to produce a new design for the Tooth Fairy. I guess this figure went into production before the change was made, so this figure might look different from what we'll see in the final film.

The figure itself has decayed skin, wears a long black skirt, and has a pair of small wings, below a pair of large black wings. I was suprised when I saw this figure on the store shelf. It looks different from the early photos I've seen. Mine has her mouth grotesquely streached open, looking alot like the Blair Witch figure, also from McFarlane. However, the photo of the figure on the box is simply a woman's normal face, only decayed.
Perhaps the change was made due to the character's scarier redone look in the final movie, either that, or there are two variations of this figure out there. I thought the normal face version looked cooler, but I can't complain, because, as always with McFarlane toys, it's incredibly detailed, and looks awesome when displayed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Really disturbing!, January 12, 2003

I think the movie's producers made a mistake in letting Stan Winston change the design of the tooth fairy... looking at the movie trailers she has some kind of spawn-like hood over her face, making her features smooth. This figure here is truly disturbing, and would likely cause much more of a stir for movie goers. Perhaps they can at least keep the face with the grossly distorted mouth and black shiny staring eyes... Man that would freak me out more than any super-hero mask, that's for sure.

This is what I imagined the Blair Witch would look like... damn that's good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much Better Than I Expected!, January 12, 2003

First off, as McFarlane has done before, there are apparently two versions of this figure. I have the open-mouthed one pictured here, but another reviewer stated he has the closed-mouth one pictured on the box. I hate when McFarlane does that kind of thing...It's just low and sneaky.

The figure itself is great. It's not the most articulated figure McFarlane has done, but the HUGE wings on the figures back more than make up for that. I was totally taken by surprise by the wings- You can't see them at all when the figure is in the box, and I bought it thinking it was a cloak of some kind. I was pleasantly surprised...

Overall, The Tooth Fairy makes a welcome addition to the Movie Maniacs collection, and with the movie "Darkness Falls" about to be released, it should be hard to find soon. Get yours now!

4.0 out of 5 stars What was the Darkness Falls Director THINKING?!, May 9, 2003

What was the director of Darkness Falls thinking when he fired the guy who came up with this design?! This figure looks great! The Tooth Fairy has three sets of wings, two of them are movable and the largest wings are designed that when you move one, the other also moves. There are two versions of this figure: a "docile" one and an "Angry" one. The angry Tooth Fairy is the one pictured here and I got the docile one. I think the docile one is better because it looks like it's just hovering, waiting to strike. This figure's hand broke off while it was still in the package, which is why I gave it a 3 in Durability. Kids also might find it scary, which is why I gave it low educational rating. The last thing is its kind of hard to pose.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bad movie, good toy, March 30, 2003

I never saw the movie, but my sister saw it, and said it was terrible. The toy, is based on the original design for the Tooth Fairy, which was scraped late in production for a more human, female Freddy Krueger looking thing. But forget about the movie, this toy is really goo. It's very articulated, sporting ankle and knee joints, ball jointed at the hips, head, and shoulders, and cut joints in the triceps, thighs, and hands, as well as articulated wings. The wings are neat, because when you move one up, the other goes up as well. The figure comes with no accessories, but it does have a variant. One version of the Tooth Fairy has a closed, "docile" head, and the other is angry, with an exposed maw. I have the opened mouth version, and it is the best one by far.
