5.0 out of 5 stars Random? Who's Random?, November 28, 2000

It made me really mad to read that review about how this album (and Braid as a whole) was "random" and "choatic" music. WHAT?? This guy said he was into more "poppier emo", which I respect and love (Get up Kids + The Anniversary=Best Show Ever) but I was so pissed when he said he couldn't respect Braid. Admittedly, Braid takes some getting used to, but everything is there! The amazing lyrics, voices, drums, timing, guitar, everything! This is the best album I own (at this point in my life) and I think Braid is under-respected. If you think they suck, then I think that may show a very shallow approach to emo, obviously this isn't true for everyone and I apologize but I guess I'm just mad at that one guy who said Braid was bad. Anyway, I also reccomend Sunny Day Real Estate, Knapsack, The Promise Ring, and making a change of styles here, Soul Coughing, who I realized are one of the best bands around (even though they broke up). Boo hoo. I'm sure you're glad that you wasted your time reading all this. Sorry.

4.0 out of 5 stars sounds like violence, August 27, 2005
This review is from: Movie Music 1 (Audio CD)
a great collection of songs from a very prolific band. since this is a group of recordings from different stages of the band, there are alot of styles and shifts represented on this cd. the first 3 songs arte from the very first 7" and are some of my favorites....their is a very paranoid style of playing in these early recordings and it sounds great even now. the rest of the cd goes through other 7"s and some compilation tracks (of which Braid must have recorded around 7000 songs..hehe). it all comes full circle with the last 3 songs which were on the last Braid 7" which showcase a more driving streamlined style. good stuff all around...but probably only recommended for fans of the band...not a good starting point for those curious about Braid.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kids Are Stupid, July 23, 2004
This review is from: Movie Music 1 (Audio CD)
I have owned this CD for years; and now I am giving this band the proper respect and farewell they deserve, even if it has come five years late.

Last night I saw Braid on their Reunion 2004 tour, and I can honestly say the show was stellar to a point that I would not care if this band is never heard from again. They knew what their audiance wanted to hear but obviously enjoyed playing it. A majority of the songs came from Frame and Canvas and Movie Music Vol. 1; but it is clear that this band knows which material is their strongest.

Bob Nana and Chris Broach share a vocal style which is very similar, although they are the only two people that really have it. It's a disjointed yet still harmonious singing, flowing perfectly with the melodic dischordance that Braid is so famous for. Todd Bell is a fantastic bass player as well, but the true star of this band is drummer Damon Atkinson (as well as Roy Ewing), who I will have to say is the premier drummer of the post-Nirvana rock world. He plays with the organized chaos of a jazz fusion drummer, and relies more on tom and bass than symbol and snare. He is simply awesome on "Please Drive Faster"

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing retrospective view of prolific rock gods, April 16, 2000

As of the time this review is being written the track listings on this sight are absolutely wrong. There are eighteen tracks on this cd-and each of them is dynamite. For any Braid fan this is a must buy. It is a chronological documentation of their 7-inches from the bands begginings to their demise and also one previously unreleased track. I had not heard much of their earlier stuff until I listened to this disc and I was suprised by the way they rocked in thier early years. The more recent songs on the disc are wonderful too. Loud, complicated, emotional, and beautifully convoluted are the words I could describe this album with.

5.0 out of 5 stars this cd is the shiznit, November 6, 2003
A Kid's Review

why anyone could not fall in love with this cd I don't understand. The complexity of progressive shifty rhythems are, in my opinion, beyond 90% of all radio bands. Bob Nana's lyrics are serinading, the guitar and base playing are original and mesmerising, and the intricate drumming is comparable to any awsome drummer there is. all in all this cd's complexities are extrordinarily in a new light of their own

5.0 out of 5 stars Hello, December 30, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Movie Music 1 (Audio CD)
Yes, well, first let me say in response to the guy who took TGUK's reccomendation, just because they listen to it doesn't mean it sounds exactly like them. braid has heavier vocals than most super-poppy emo-bands, and the vocals sort of sound like cap'n jazz. they sing about stuff other than girls and although they sound chaotic, it is obvious by listening to their songs that this is intentional. it brings a kind of splintered painful sound, and it makes you sad in a different way than TGUK or promise ring. not to mention that this is their best album by far-it isn't an album really, it's a comp. of their singles and songs they put onother comp.'s and stuff. it's really great, and i highly reccomend it for someone who isn't expecting some super-poppy whining about girls.

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice!, July 7, 2000

Excellent album from a great band. Sadly they have split up, more's the pity. I bought this because I went to see the Get Up Kids and they told me to. I will never regret it! It is a bit of a grower as it spans from early on to recently and I think the more recent songs like "Please drive faster" are better. My favourite songs are "What a wonderful puddle!", "Niagara" and "Forever got shorter". I'm definately going to get more Braid albums, I just wish that they were still together.
