Book Description

February 3, 2009
Movie Viewer Extraordinaire by Teresa Haux traces the subtle influences and manipulations used by the media industry today, particularly the role they play in molding public opinion, influencing consumer buying patterns, and undermining the traditional family unit. Through common-sense writing, Haux’s impeccable examination pierces the superficial appreciation we have for movies to reveal the sly and cunning slight of hand used by the media giants to control and direct our lives. Haux’s Movie Viewer Extraordinaire delivers in its promise to show us how to take back our power as consumers of media. Movie Viewer Extraordinaire demonstrates to parents and families, in particular, how five basic guidelines can help them to rediscover the joys of movie watching, without succumbing to the wiles of media manipulators. Movie Viewer Extraordinaire explodes old myths about what we watch and why, and does so with smarts, humor, and a firm hand on the remote.

4.0 out of 5 stars Insightful Read, December 8, 2009

This review is from: Movie Viewer Extraordinaire: Discerning the Influences of Movies on Your Freedom, Family and Happiness (Paperback)
I read this book before the 2009 swearing in of our current presidency, and many of the ideas that Ms. Haux presents in this book are becoming clearer as I watch the media coverage of it all. Also, it is interesting to watch what new movies are coming out and taking what I learned in this book to the theater with me to help sort through some of those emotions Hollywood tried to induce. I also appreciate the sound guidelines she offers for helping decipher appropriate viewing for my children.
