5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, expressive music
This is the second Madredeus CD I have listened to, and I am impressed. Teresa Salgueiro has an angelic voice, and the instrumental musicians blend with her beautifully. The group seems to work intuitively; their music is remarkably together and unified. I don't speak Portuguese, so I had to read the liner notes to understand their messages, which are remarkable,...

2.0 out of 5 stars Manufacturo
Substituting the cello for a synthesiser wasn't a good move. The feeling is gone from this album; it lacks the sincerity of the band's previous melancholic recordings. Prior to hearing this album I had a longing ambition to see Madredeus live on stage, but if the songs and instrumentation of this album are any indication, the band urgently needs to regroup. Frankly, Pedro...

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring, expressive music, December 2, 2001

This is the second Madredeus CD I have listened to, and I am impressed. Teresa Salgueiro has an angelic voice, and the instrumental musicians blend with her beautifully. The group seems to work intuitively; their music is remarkably together and unified. I don't speak Portuguese, so I had to read the liner notes to understand their messages, which are remarkable, things we can all identify with. The music is beautiful in itself, however, and the tracks seem to connect as if in a story. This CD is ideal for moods of introspection and for mid-day reveries as you go from one obligation in your life to the next.

5.0 out of 5 stars MAGICAL, July 23, 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Movimento (Audio CD)
I am Portuguese, aged 29 and was only 14 years old when Madredeus appeared as a musical group.
Since then, I have been following closely their carreer.
After so many years, seeing how they became better and better, listening to their records and going to so many concerts, I can only say that this group has changed my life.
Their music is truly magical... For us, here in Portugal, it's with great emotion that we see the success they have achieved both here and abroad.
The last album "Movimento" is almost a review of all those years behind and how the future should be: with peace, love and faith.
Madredeus make me feel hopeful and fight for a better future for us all: that is the message of Movimento.
And that is true magic: being able to express in words and through a magnificent voice what we all feel and hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another Masterpiece from Excellent Musicians, July 25, 2001
This review is from: Movimento (Audio CD)
Every time Madredeus releases a new album I am never disappointed and "Movimento" is no exception. Teresa Salgueiro's beautiful voice backed up by excellent playing from Pedro Ayres Magalhaes, Jose Peixoto, Carlos Maria Trindade and Fernando Judice make this an experience worth listening to. As usual, Magalhaes's compositions are superb and Salguiero's interpretations are unique and ethereal. I can think of no other voice that can touch and affect me the way Salgueiro's does. Although I like all the songs on this CD, particular favorites of mine are "Ecos na Catedral", "O Olhar", "A Quimera" and "Vozes no Mar". I highly recommend this CD to any music fan. If you have never heard of Madredeus before and you decide to buy the CD you will not be disappointed. This is an excellent CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars moody, May 8, 2002

many of the songs are excellent moody compositions, with Therese's haunting voice and very good instrumental backup. As they are very good musicians, there is a lot of finesse and intricate playing and arrangements. The music appeals to rainy afternoons. After a while it gets one dimensional though, and requires a rest of a week or so, afterwhich it sounds fresh again. But that is my personal experience. Fado music is like that, as far as I have heard.

5.0 out of 5 stars The old magic is back, May 25, 2001

If you already know MadreDeus, there are no big surprises here. Teresa Salgueiro's voice has darkened a little bit, the accordeonist Gabriel Gomes is back( and that is good news, at least for me ), after leaving for some time for is own project " Danças Ocultas", whose records are unfortunately not available at the United States, but the calm and soft melodies have the same quality as before. If you read the lyrics, you will find perhaps a more disappointed vision of life than before, but that will not make you discard the album. If you are already a fan, buy without reserve. If not, this album, with its generous timing ( 78 min. ) is certainly a good way to start your collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars TOO PERFECT TO BE HUMAN, July 20, 2001
By
This review is from: Movimento (Audio CD)
A soft breeze coming from the sea,the heartbreaking look of the beloved one,the constant will of having a journey, loneliness in the middle of the ocean, hope for a better future...are marvellously expressed in this album by the purest, the most refined voice on Earth...the voice of Teresa Salguiero... a voice which is too perfect to be human...is itself a reason enough to live for.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!, July 5, 2008
This review is from: Movimento (Audio CD)
It's difficult to be objective when it comes to say something about your favourite band. I've followed MADREDEUS for several years and the only thing that I may say is that they're are simply THE BEST OF THE BEST!!!!
The band is ageless and Teresa Salgueiro is marvelous; I still can't believe that I've just seen her live in concert here in Santiago presenting her second solo album. You never get tired of listening to this awesome musical group, the best since The Beatles and Peter, Paul and Mary (although totally different). I don't think I need to say that I've got all their records and listen to them at least twice a week. Summing up, the very best contemporary european band. You don't believe me? Ask any other MADREDEUS fan and try at least one of their records.

5.0 out of 5 stars Remarkable, May 8, 2008
By
This review is from: Movimento (Audio CD)
I recently discovered this wonderful band, and have yet to find a bad CD by them. One may quibble over how much synth is too much, but at the heart of all this is some astoundingly beautiful music. I find it suits hot, sunny days as much as dour, rainy ones. Great music is great music no matter where or when it's played.

4.0 out of 5 stars Too much electronic sound, July 10, 2004
This review is from: Movimento (Audio CD)
The lyrics in this CD are all Madredeus style: sublime and exquisite, and Teresa's voice, extraordinary, as usual. However, the incorporation of certain electronic sounds in songs like "Ecos na Catedral" rest delicacy to the composition as a whole. The acoustic sound of Madredeus, as in Spirito Da Paz, is much more delicious and makes me go so delirious!
I love them!
