GRUPO FANTASMA is an 11 piece latin funk orchestra based in Austin, Texas. And they have been rockin' there heavily for quite some time. Putting on incredible shows for South By Southwest showcases, and being voted Best Latin Act and Best Horns by the Austin Chronicle, as well as being in the top ten Austin albums and songs of the year. They are really taking off with this album, with local NPR support, a heavy up coming national tour schedule (ask your sales rep for details), as well as licensing several tracks to MTV's "Real World" and "Road Rules" shows. Their first eponymous self-released album moved over 7,000 copies from the stage alone and landed them on internationally distributed compilations, a NPR special, and the soundtrack to critically acclaimed director John Sayles' film Casa de los Babys. Special guest artists featured on the album include Raga El, who introduces the band in classic dancehall style, Tejano music legend Ruben Ramos (Los Super Seven), and DMC champion DJ Baby G, who contributed to a track on Fantasma's first album. Grupo Fantasma represents a new generation of musicians who can reference slick Quincy Jones era production AND the grittiness of the Beastie Boys' "Check Your Head."
