I've had the pleasure of seeing Al Turner ("The Burner") perform live on several occasions. He's as graceful as he is funky. The A-List bassist plays regularly with Kem, Earl Klugh and Bob James and has toured and recorded with some of the top names in the music biz including celebrated leading ladies Aretha Franklin, Nancy Wilson, Gladys Knight, Oleta Adams, Randy Crawford and Anita Baker. He met Anita just after high school when they both played the Detroit club circuit in the group Free Spirit. MOVIN' is Al's solo debut release on the expanding Megawave Records label and the project is definitely going to transport you with feel good grooves, high caliber musicianship and inspired, radio-friendly melodies! I'm a bit of a low-end fanatic myself... just give me some thick bass melody and I'm movin'. Al surrounds himself with friends on this adventure; something he's certainly grateful for, as "It's Good To Have Friends" is one of the twelve tracks on MOVIN'. You'll find his friend and legendary jazz guitarist Earl Klugh on the stunning "Te Quiero," sax great Everette Harp on the album's first single, the attention grabbing "Stop Watch," pop vocalist sensation Oleta Adams on the soulful "Your Will" and guitarist Paul Jackson, Jr. on the deep groove "Bassin'." Al Turner's MOVIN' is the perfect soundtrack for smoothing out the edges, feeling alive and getting your groove on.

I caught Al Turner while he performed with Earl klugh in Pittsburgh, he made the most of his spotlight. When I saw the chance to get his cd I jumped. He brings to mind the great names in bass men Clark, Wooten, Kool. I know Kool might have thrown some but Al Turner's Cd will not dissapoint

This CD is well orchestrated and put together with a flair. This is a CD that comes right after you with the very first track and continues on through the end. The music is well written, appeals to your smooth jazz senses, and vibrates your soul. Al's experience really shows in his selection of musical compositions.
This CD will be one of the best of 2008 in smooth jazz. |
