5.0 out of 5 stars a breath of fresh air
I first started to listen to bluegrass almost 10 years ago and have run the gammut. 3.0 out of 5 stars CD review
This album was a bit more mellow than I expected, although there are several songs that have a faster beat.

I first started to listen to bluegrass almost 10 years ago and have run the gammut. A lot of the new 'jamgrass' bands that are popping up foresake the singing and songwriting so important to the genre. As strange as it sounds, I've been listening to more electronic music lately... but this album is absolutely a breath of fresh air. Beautiful melodies, harmonies, and fantastic playing. I'm almost afraid that Weather and Water will be a let down, but I can't wait to find out.

They are about to go on tour opening for Willie Nelson and Bob Dylan. I'm pretty sure they'll come out of that one with a legion of new fans, so be "cool" and buy this one today ;)

As an aside... I knew the fiddle player, Eamon, when I was living in Austin five years ago (yes, I paid for this album), and the reason for the name is that none of them were born American! Yet, they seem to have mastered this American artform... intriguing...

5.0 out of 5 stars Where have these guys been?, June 9, 2005
This review is from: Movin on (Audio CD)
This album is phenomenal. The fiddle and mandolin work, mixed with Carol's warm and pure voice create a sound that combines early bluegrass tunes with the country music I love today. The entire album, front to back sets a mood that you can't find yourself, escaping until long after the album has finished. I'm really looking forward to Weather and Water, from what I've heard on their website, it may very well to top this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars great purchase!, June 13, 2005

This album is exactly what I've been searching for!! The music is so refreshingly honest and pure, and the musical talent in this trio is absolutely unbelievible....I love it! The Greencards somehow manage to make music that holds on to the traditional roots of the genre, and keep a contemporary sound at the same time. Terrific!!
---I Can't wait for the next one!!!---

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing musicians, June 9, 2005
This review is from: Movin on (Audio CD)
This is one of the best bluegrass albums I've heard in years! The musicianship and overall sound coming out of this band is completely mind-blowing and sets a new precedent in my book. With such song writing ability, I look forward to hearing a lot more of them. And with this being an album they released on their own, I can't wait for the new release due out on June 28th.

5.0 out of 5 stars I saw them live!, June 9, 2005
This review is from: Movin on (Audio CD)
I can't believe more of this band isn't being played all over. I saw them play at the Belcourt Theatre in Nashville a few weeks ago and for being so young....they have a very bright future ahead of them. Their chops blow away many of the acts you hear today and they do it with such ease and confidence that it seems like they've been playing together for 20 years. They even played some of the songs off of their new album and those sounded even better and more mature, but this album asks the music fan in you to come out and have some fun!

5.0 out of 5 stars Americana minus American accents, July 19, 2004

After seeing the Greencards live, I purchased their cd and love every track of it. The music and vocals are incredible. They remain true to an Appalachian sound, although they hail from England and Australia. The music is beautiful and sophisticated. The fiddle is very prominent in most of the songs, so if you are a fan of the fiddle, this is a good cd to purchase. I would recommend this cd to anyone who likes bluegrass music. You won't be disappointed.

This album by the Greencards is great stuff! The songs are of the "can't stop singing" variety; the harmonies are tender and sweet; the instrumentation is perfect. Check out the Greencards; I predict you'll have a new favorite!

5.0 out of 5 stars Seriously talented people, great music, January 5, 2008

Had never heard The Greencards live when I bought this CD, but was knocked out by some of the tunes on here. Was much more impressed with the covers than with the original tunes, but regardless the level of musicianship displayed on this CD is nothing short of astounding. For such relatively young pickers. these folks really have their chops down and sing and play with unique intensity and emotion. My favorite cuts are "Love's a Word I Never Throw Around", "Caleb Meyer", "Six White Horses", and "Victim to the Tomb". All just amazingly good and worth the price of the CD. Looking forward to hearing more of them.
