Book Description

November 1, 1998
Vasts numbers of children with motor disorders need rehabilitation. In response to the expressed needs of their care givers, this manual was compiled complete with a CD of songs. The text provides a practical, step by step guide to the activities of the daily routine for different levels of functional ability. Written in five parts, it aims to highlight the importance of the daily routine/programme in providing children with the optimum opportunity for training, practice and reinforcement when learning daily life skills. Part One discusses the early development of the normal child, in particular stressing the interrelationship of all aspects of the child's development including a structured learning environment. This is then turned to the viewpoint for the cerebral palsy child. Part Two then sets the groundwork for the actual implementation of the environment to teach the child all the skills to function in life. Having set these goals, Part Three takes the child step by step through the implementation process. Part Four deals with the task series, where the skills needed at the 4 different levels of position (lying, sitting, standing, and walking) are taught. Finally, Part Five scrutinises some problems that may arise from individual cases which require specific adaptations. The manual is directed at middle level rehabilitation workers, but doctors, nurses, therapists, teachers, parents, and nursery nurses will also find it useful in their daily practice.
