Paul and Annie have made their best album together yet! Paul has a masterfull command of the blues that was evident even when we were growing up as kids and playing in bands in the Connecticut area in the mid sixties. 3.0 out of 5 stars a little off
I have the prior discs of Paul and Annie and love them and purchased this one with great anticipation. I can't put my finger on it, but this one dissappointed me slightly. In part its the style of the songs, a tad too old-timey and less pure blues. In part it is a forced feel to the whole thing.

Its not horrible, but it just isnt great either.

I had the pleasure of jamming with Paul and Annie a few years ago at my home and her harp playing even then was the best I had heard and given her young age, was downright scarey! Now as evident on this latest release she has developed into a full blown harp monster! Together, Paul and Annie who share the lead vocal spots, along with Annie's harmonica and Pauls masterful blues guitar playing will give any blues lover a rare treat indeed. A must have!

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid, enjoyable blues with warmth and respect for tradition, August 28, 1999

Paul Rishell and Annie Raines manage to continue the country and delta blues traditions without being taxidermists --- the life is still in the carefully and well-chosen covers. They can play the hell out of the electrified styles also, but give me those Bo Carter tunes anyday. Annie especially shines in the Chicago-style numbers, while Paul's playing on that National guitar is first rate. Paul and Annie make a good duet, with great chemistry and a refreshing restraint and smart tastefulness in their playing. Their band rocks, too. I recommend the album.

4.0 out of 5 stars Rishell + National Steel guitar= awesome, November 22, 1999

I was lucky enough to see this duo at a blues festival this side of the Atlantic and bought the album along with one of Paul's solo albums on the strength of their set. I've not been disappointed. Both electrified and acoustic numbers are equally good. Personally I prefer the electric versions since Annie's harmonica sounds better and is more prominent but Paul on the Steel guitar is something to hear. Buy it, but better still, see them live.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Yet!!!!!, September 21, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Moving to the Country (Audio CD)
Paul and Annie, an asset to acoustic blues have released another scorcher. They are like a great wine, maturing with taste over time.

This is the best sounding yet, "Keep Your Hands Off Her", would have made Leadbelly Proud. This sticks out as my favorite.

Annie's harmonica is brilliant as always blazing new tonal pathways for our ears to explore and enjoy. Not to Sloppy on the mando either.

Where in the past some of the mix has been mired in reverb, all the notes are clear and concise, letting us hear the masterful interplay between the two artists.

I spent a few years in Boston as a harp player and had the pleasure to sit in on a few tunes with Paul at the Sit and Bull in Maynard. It was always a pleasure just to sit and listen, but to play with a musician of such genius made a young harp players dream come true.

Glad to have you guys back!

5.0 out of 5 stars SEE THEM, May 16, 2011
This review is from: Moving to the Country (Audio CD)
Love this CD. Just picked it up at Landhaven B&B. BUT I must say if you have not seen these two live you have not seen real music. What a great CD and if it could get any better the show was second to none, and I have seen many a show in the past 60 years. THANK YOU Paul and Annie for the tradition and the music, you do it VERY well!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Rishell And Raines Do It Again!!!, December 1, 2002
By
This review is from: Moving to the Country (Audio CD)
Guitarist Paul Rishell and harmonica player Annie Raines have proven for over ten years that they can play the Blues with the bestof them. This recording is further proof to their mastery of Blues.

Again, as with their previous efforts, the pair mixes older Blues songs with some of their own originals and do a nice job of it. Rishell is truly at home with the older guitar styles, making the playing of difficult parts seem like second nature. Annie Raines shows again that she's a woman who can play the Blues harmonica as well as any man. i hope that someday that there will be a lot more like her.

This CD is definitely worth purchasing.
