Moving On is a book of street-smart, yet soul-wise aphorisms for those of us seeking peace in the center of an ever-changing world. About the Author

Born in 1942, Stuart Perrin has trodden the spiritual path since he was sixteen. He studied literature, philosophy, acting, and poetry, and lived a Bohemian life in Europe and Africa until he was 25 and met his teacher, Albert Rudolph. Better know as Rudi, this iconoclastic spiritual teacher gave Eastern spirituality a new American slant, and Stuart Perrin has been carrying that slant forward ever since Rudi's death in 1973. His studies with Rudi gave Stuart a deep insight into how meditation and inner work can help a person find a way to live in the world and be free of it at the same time. The author of four previous books, and an expert in Oriental art, Perrin ran a meditation center in Texas for nine years before moving to New York City, where he lived for 20 years. He subsequently moved to Woodstork, NY, and has since returned to New York City where he continues to teach spiritual work in the tradition of Rudi.

More About the Author

Stuart Perrin was born in New York City on August 10, 1942. At the age of sixteen he began a search for a teacher who could direct his creative energies on a spiritual path. He studied literature, philosophy, acting and wrote poems of a visionary nature. He lived a bohemian life in Europe and Africa until his twenty-fifth birthday when circumstances forced him to return to the States. It was at that time that he met Rudi (Albert Rudolph) in New York City. Mr. Perrin became a disciple of Rudi's, and their relationship grew closer over the years. They were together at the time of Rudi's death in 1973 in an airplane crash. "I never felt he had gone. If I wish to be with him, to learn from him, I just open my heart. He is there. Sitting. Smiling. Sharing his teachings."

His studies with Rudi gave Mr. Perrin a deep insight into how meditation and inner work could help a human being find a method whereby it is possible to live in the world and be free of it at the same time.

Stuart is a long-time writer and author of five books and many essays, both fiction and non-fiction, weaving his understanding of inner work and affairs of the heart with equal dexterity.

Stuart has a meditation center in New York City where he offers classes, lectures, and meditation retreat intensives around the country. He has many students throughout the United States, Europe, Israel and Brazil.

5.0 out of 5 stars What it takes to be happy..., November 21, 2004

This review is from: Moving On: Finding Happiness in a Changed World (Paperback)
There are thousands of spiritual books out there (some, like this one, actually great), but "Moving On" is actually useful and street-smart. The book is filled with hundreds of zen-like aphorisms that beckon you to savor the deeper meaning in the few chosen words. But unlike a zen koan which is couched in mystery, Mr. Perrin speaks plainly, sending zingers straight to the heart. Example: "Love is the very source of creation and we, fools that we are, cut ourselves off from creation and wander about the Earth looking everywhere for answers that are in the center of our hearts."

Put that in your pipe and smoke it...

Or this one: "The most sacred place on Earth is the spot you are standing. Once you realize this, all seeking is over." Sit with this thought for a little while, and it will shake your world to its rafters.

Mr. Perrin manages to distill over 30 years of meditation studies into one slim volume. Makes great reading just before bed, and would be a much-appreciated gift. Highly recommended.
