Great Parenting Tips!,
By Barbara Sheldon, M.S.W. (Solana Beach, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Moving Forward After Divorce: Practical Steps to * Healing Your Hurts * Finding Fresh Perspective * Managing Your New Life (Paperback)
As a divorced mom, single parent, mother of two --- I read a lot. This new book has already changed the way I'm parenting my boys --- who are just now emerging into their teen years. Great parenting tips! This is one of the most positive, encouraging, "real life" books I've discovered. Extremely useful for anyone who is in their first 3-5 years after a divorce. Very well done!

When I found myself suddenly [and unexpectedly] a single mom with six children, panic set in. Seriously.
I ordered quite a lot of divorce books in an effort to learn what I needed to do to survive in this strange new world I'd woken up in. This book was by far the most helpful one. The authors shared stories of other divorced people that I could relate to. They helped me understand what was normal [and that feeling like I felt WAS, indeed, normal]. They gave very concrete and helpful advice on how to "Move Forward" - it was so positive and it really helped me pick myself up and get moving towards healing and a brand new life. I credit this book with helping me move beyond despair and broken-heartedness and towards happiness and hope. The constructive ideas in this book not only helped me help myself, but really helped me help my children as well - they benefitted from this book at least as much as I did. Quite a lot of this book is devoted to helping divorced people who are also parents, and I found that extremely beneficial. For someone going through a divorce who does not have children, this book may not be as helpful - quite a bit of it really is focused on parenting well through divorce. This book is also written from a strong Christian perspective and may not be helpful to those who are not from a Christian belief system. But for newly single Christian parents - you can't find a better book. Buy this book - you won't be sorry. In fact, I'd really like to thank the authors - you changed my life for the better with this truly helpful book. You helped me survive the worst time in my life and to move forward and thrive. Thank you so much.

I thought that this book was extremely helpful. There were tips and encouraging words that could only be helpful to people who lived through a divorce and were having a tough time dealing with the aftermath. My wish would be that BOTH parents would read this book. It would only help the ex-couple and their children. Good Job!

Best Divorce Book I've Seen Anywhere,
By Lauren Hodge "Lauren in Apple Valley" (Apple Valley, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Moving Forward After Divorce: Practical Steps to * Healing Your Hurts * Finding Fresh Perspective * Managing Your New Life (Paperback)
I found this book while attending a divorce-recovery group at church. The authors spoke at a seminar at our church; I wasn't able to attend but my friends said it was excellent and extremely interesting.
Our group used this book as the "study book" for our group times, and what's fun is that everyone actually DID THEIR READING. I've been in a lot of groups where people kind of skim over things and skip sections, but this book reads easily and keeps you paying attention. Fun, funny, and also very real. It is obvious that these authors understand what we're going through. I am now remarried but I still turn to this book sometimes, especially the section about parenting. This book's chapter on parenting is the best advice I've seen anywhere about how to raise your kids --- and it's hidden away here in a divorce book!! I was surprised but glad to find it. GREAT divorce book; best one I've read (I've read 10 or 12 titles.) Lauren Hodge Apple Valley, California I also highly recommend: Happily Remarried: Making Decisions Together * Blending Families Successfully * Building a Love That Will Last

I loved this book, which I read during the difficult transition period after my rather traumatic divorce. It's practical, warm, and encouraging, as well as very thorough. One thing to be aware is that it strongly promotes joining a church and working on one's faith, but I still found that in general the advice here was right on target. Thank you, Dr. and Dr. Frisbie!

This book is a very easy to read book. It is cut into bite-size reading parts and and leaves you walking away thinking about what you just read. I, however, am on the younger end of a divorce and do not have children; so I found the book to be slightly misleading because an overwhelming part of the book is about parenting and raising children. If I had children, I'd probably give this a higher rating, however it didn't offer what I needed.

The Best Book in This Category: By Far,
This review is from: Moving Forward After Divorce: Practical Steps to * Healing Your Hurts * Finding Fresh Perspective * Managing Your New Life (Paperback)
Besides reading this book myself, I've given it as a gift to several friends. It's so warm, so readable, and so full of hope.
This is the best divorce-care or divorce-recovery title that I've read anywhere! I liked the true-life stories; I could relate to the women and men in these pages as they made mistakes, learned by trial and error, and then began to move forward. There is a lot of realism here --- Not false hope or fuzzy optimism. The book pulls no punches, but the more you read, somehow the more encouraged you become. And by the end of the book you realize --- divorce doesn't have to limit me in the future or determine my personal identity. Instead, I can grow, change, improve, move forward --- and succeed!! I also enjoyed reading a related title:Happily Remarried: Making Decisions Together * Blending Families Successfully * Building a Love That Will Last

This book was great condition. This was a good book, IF you were the one who was left. Sometimes divorce books forget there are times folks have to leave the marriage for safety reasons. HOWEVER< it did have great references to other books esp the one titled "Rebuilding" which is for both those who were left and who had to leave.

If you are about victimizing yourself, this is a book for you. This book takes on a very bold position of blanket statements for every situation. I couldn't finish reading it, I was so angry. I recommend this book to no one!!!!

I had high hopes for this book, obviously anyone searching under this topic is looking for a lifeline and this book is not it. I estimate 20% to 30% of the book is useful & it does a great job of talking about the benefits of faith without basing everything from that platform. It may help with recovery but it tries to cover all situations from day 1 to remarriage & doesn't focus enough on day 1 to day 365.
