Eric Hutchinson - Watching You Watch Him (Official Lyric Video)

Biography

Eric Hutchinson
Moving Up Living Down

As Eric Hutchinson journeyed toward the making of Moving Up Living Down, the delightfully witty and supremely wise follow-up to his hit debut Sounds Like This, he developed a very simple rule regarding new songs.

“I traveled so long and got to see so many people and places,” he says. “And sharing music with the fans every ... Read more in Amazon's Eric Hutchinson Store

Editorial Reviews

Road-tested in every setting from a converted garage in Salt Lake City to the 30,000-seat Calgary Saddledome, from San Diego to Dubai, the artist and songs alike bear a playful confidence that was boosted along the way. As the Washington, DC-raised singer, pianist and guitarist traveled the world over the course of several years, word of mouth about his irresistible songs and engaging presence brought out consistently growing concert crowds. That helped turn the song "Rock & Roll" into an international hit. The songs "OK, It s Alright With Me" and "Oh!" also caught fire.

On Moving Up Living Down, all of Eric s ever-widening musical embraces are brought into play, from the exuberant folk-pop bounce of "Watching You Watch Him" (the first single, which debuted on the season premiere of ABC-TV s "Grey's Anatomy") through the reggae lilt of opener "Talk is Cheap" through the soul grounding of "The Basement." The music is tuneful and rhythmic. The lyrics are engaging and reflective. Comparisons, as always, are tough, but you wouldn t go wrong thinking of a spectrum that includes Paul Simon, the Beatles and Stevie Wonder, all integrated into a truly Hutchinsonian whole. Produced by Mike Elizondo (Eminem, Regina Spektor) and Martin Terefe (Jason Mraz, James Morrison).

5.0 out of 5 stars Summer arrives on a shimmery platter April 17, 2012
Format:MP3 Music
I have been to plenty of Eric Hutchinson's sold out concerts over the years, but the first time I saw him was a kegger in Los Angeles. It was some loud loft party my friends dragged me to. All of a sudden, this lanky kid plugs in his amp, strums his guitar and within a song, captures the room. In a city filled with hipsters who were doing the Lana Del Rey, I'm too sexy for this room, thing long before she did; here was a guy who was energetic, smiled brightly, and just when you think you saw where the song was going, he takes a left field turn into a Beyonce hook.

His studio albums and live EPs miraculously captured the energy of his live sets on disc, and this new album keeps the party going. I was so worried this big label one would be polished by big-shot producers and bland with big shot collaborators. Nope. This is just pure Eric - stronger songwriting than ever - really fleshed out with a solid band. My only beef, the tempos don't stray much, but then again, when you have struck gold, you can't get too much of a good thing.

Eric's lyrics are sharp. His melodies will get stuck in your head. This is the perfect cure for road rage. Tap your fingers on the steering wheel, sing along and enjoy the sun. John Mayer may get more paparazzi. Jason Mraz might get more gigs on The View and Kelly Ripa, but Eric Hutchinson is the one to watch. And guys, here's another reason to get well versed in his music, Hutchheads (as his adoring female fanbase call themselves) are HOT.

The CD does not contain any booklet or liner notes, so if you're not a CD collector, digital is the way to go. PLUS you get the exclusive bonus track. I had to pay extra for that track, but it was worth it.

Really strong album. Admire how he is able to put together such a diverse group of songs while staying true to his sound. Gotta say I'm not crazy about The Basement, but really loving all the other songs! Definitely buy the album and hear for yourself what he's all about!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the Wait - Hutch Nails It April 25, 2012
Format:MP3 Music|Amazon Verified Purchase
If it was possible to wear out digital tracks, this one has various clicks and fuzzy pops after one week. "I'm going down to the basement.." to enjoy every track at high volume again. I rarely review albums but Hutch has put together an absolute gem here. After discovering "Sounds Like This" I couldn't wait for another album, man was it worth the wait. Keep it up! I will be recommending this to all my music loving friends.
