Review

Beverly D. Roman has moved sixteen times in the twenty-nine years of her married life. She had moved domestically and internationally, to England, and one move, for which she and her husband bought a house in California lasted all of 33 days before they sold it to move, again, to Pittsburgh. Mrs. Roman is an expert when it comes to all facets of moving. In Moving Minus Mishaps she generously and comprehensively shares what she had gleaned from these uprootings. Interspersed among 19 chapters on the domestic move are very helpful insights on how to sell a house and whether to buy, build, or rent another, on how to select quality medical care in the new locale, on how to choose schools and guide the children, and even on how to help the family pets relocate with a minimum of worry. We also benefit from her tips on dealing with movers, insurers, and the like. Last but not least, following her epilogue are numerous checklists, perhaps the most important one of which is simply called "Survival Box." In Part 11 she provides advice on how to successfully engineer an international move, including firsthand knowledge of the difficulties on reentering the homeland. Wry cartoons on all that can and probably will go wrong appear throughout the text and help to offset the obvious stress of this kind of undertaking. -- From Independent Publisher --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.
