Editorial Reviews

From the Author

This story has been aching to be told for 17 years.  I tape recorded all of my thoughts all those years ago because I knew I wanted to write a book.  In the first couple of years after my illness, my journals reflected my yearning to make the book a reality.  Yet, the job of motherhood took precedence over the role of writer.
If I had written the book in the years I was still recovering from this experience, the book would be empty of the wisdom that only time and healing brings.  I was surprised by the emotions that hit me as I wrote each section of the book.  Working through those emotions gave me a window into my past experiences and gave me a better understanding of where I was, and how it relates to my life now. I am grateful to be able to share my story to inspire others to continue to move the mountains in their life.  Never give up!

From the Back Cover

"This stunning memoir almost defies description. Jan opens her life and heart to take us to the brink of pain and suffering, then emerges with her greatest teaching: gratitude.  It's almost inconceivable, given her journey, that she portrays how precious life is.  Her prose is beautiful, but it is her verse that has the power to alter your heart."
Paula D'Arcy, author of Gift of the Red Bird and Waking Up to This Day.

"Moving Mountains isn't just one woman's story of tragedy and triumph; it is a story of moving more deeply into one's humanity- of embracing both the pain and joy of the human experience."
Page Lambert, Connecting People with Nature, Connecting Writers with Words
Author of In Search of Kinship.

More About the Author

Jan Haas is a storyteller, keynote speaker and workshop facilitator who inspires others to embrace the challenges of life, search for evidence of love, and live with gratitude.

Jan's life changing illness changed the course of her life forever, helping her to see that only when we live in the present moment can we fully experience Divine Love. She has been a writer since her teen years, so turning her healing journey into a story was a natural step.

Jan works as a wellness coach, inviting others to find peace in the present, experience the world as full of possibilities, and find balance for daily living.

Jan is working on her second book about embracing the transitions of life with grace.

Interesting book of the pain and struggle for the whole family to endure. Jan came to point in her life that she was determine to live no matter what cost. I loved her courage to keep the faith that she was going to get through this no matter what. Her faith and family was the glue to her survival. I really enjoyed how her husband stuck by her side through the whole process. For me it was sort of hard to follow, overall it was inspiring read. She has come a long way to enlightenment.

I love this story as there is not only the authors written thoughts but there are also pieces shared by family, friends, and those involved in her care.
This book is not only that of a woman's fight to live again but the fight of the entire community for her life as well as a beautiful love story.

Hats off to this lady for sharing such a gruesome life event. A well put together story by using excerpts from family and friends. I wish you only peace and good health from here on in.

Jan Haas has an inspirational testimony that is worth reading; not for the squeamish however. She describes some of her ickier procedures...if you have a strong stomach or are a nurse, it's a realistic portrayal of physical struggles.

This is a true story about one woman's journey through a deadly illness along with her family, church family and friends. It tells of her struggle to live physically, mentally, spiritually and the steadfastness of her husband's love for her. Made me very grateful for my health and the minor problems we face compared to her ordeal. Nice not to read a fairy tale romance again.

I think I remember reading about this story when it was occurring years ago. What Jan went through is amazing. The book kept my interest until almost the end and then I skimmed the last few pages.
