This a very good romantic suspense. I enjoyed the story and the hot romance. The author did a great deal of research and I liked that she followed the rules of the U S Marshall's Office. So many authors take to much priviledge with the truth and become somewhat unbelievable. So it was nice to see that this story followed protocol.
Ani King was a museum curator until she watched Dmitry Borenko kill her family. She was shot and left for dead but managed to get out a window with her sister's body when they set the house on fire. Her father had been involved with the Russian Mob. When he tried to get out Dmitry pulled a gun and shot him between the eyes and then shot Ani her mother and her sister. Ani is now in the WITSEC program and as the trial date nears she makes a decision that reveals her whereabouts to the mob. Deputy Marshall Daniel Parker has been her contact for the last year and when he calls to tell her it is time to get ready to go for the trial, she tells him what she has done. He immediately heads out to get her and see her to New York. The mob has covered the airports and they have people hunting her as they speak. Daniel barely gets to her in time and then they have to dodge bullets. Just getting to New York is a major undertaking. Daniel knows he is not supposed to get involved with his witness, nevertheless, he finds himself falling for Ani. Ani has been in love with Daniel for some time. The action is intense, the story is good, and I liked the romance. However, there was a bit more bedroom action than I needed. If it gets a bit too hot you can skip a few pages like I did. Still it's a good story and a good read.

Ani is in the witness protection program for witnessing the murder of her family by the Russian mafia. Her father had been involved in the Russian mafia and was trying to get out. Ani came across documents that she was going to confront her father with but ended up seeing them shoot her father, mother, and sister. They also set a fire to their house and Ani was badly burned on her back in addition to the shot to her shoulder.
Fast forward to two years later and Ani is living in a small town and has a new identity. She is waiting to testify against the Russian mafia who murdered her family. One phone call to her past life puts her life in danger and the Russian mafia will stop at nothing to see that she never testifies. Her guardian angel is her Deputy Marshal, Daniel, who has been there for since the beginning. He calls her weekly to see how she is doing and they have become close friends. He is there for her when everything comes crashing down and is there to get her safely to the trial only a few days away. They can't ignore the chemistry between them and fall for each other even under the circumstances. The story keeps you suspense as the Deputy Marshals try to get Ani back to NY to testify. They keep running into obstacles and danger at every turn and they are kept on the run until the trial. Will they survive so she can testify and get justice for her family? The action is non stop and the chemistry is hot between the Ani and Daniel. It is a forbidden love that could cost Daniel his career. He is supposed to be protecting Ani not getting emotionally and physically involved with her. She is going to disappear with a new identity after the trial is over. What will happen to them after this is all over? Cheyenne McCray gives us an exciting romantic suspense novel that you will definitely want to pick up.

Okay,
This review is from: Moving Target (Mass Market Paperback)
Exciting story line but I found I got tired of such lines as "You smell like almonds and woman" or he smelled like such and such and man. Too many romance authors overuse such lines. Anyway it made me roll my eyes and think, "not again". This book was a bit too trite for me.

Ani King has spent the last two years hiding from her old life under The Witness Security Program. She is within days of testifying when a needy family has her taking a risk and making a phone call. Now Ani is on the run again but this time towards her old life. At least this time she has her marshal with her. Now if she can just forget about the needs that come up every time Ani looks or thinks about him.
Daniel Parker is the deputy marshal assigned to Ani when she was first put into the program. During one of his normal calls, Daniel discovers what Ani has done and knows that she is in danger again. Ani has been more than just an assigned job to Daniel for quite awhile now. Daniel and Ani have to get across the country in time for her court hearing while preventing the Russian mafia from finding them. Even with danger and death coming at them from every angle, Daniel and Ani can't prevent their feelings from taking over even knowing it's breaking the rules. Protection is Daniel's job and keeping Ani safe is all Daniel can worry about for now. The mafia is getting desperate. Will Daniel and the US Marshals be enough to get Ani to court on time? Moving Target takes readers into the secrecy of The Witness Security Program both before and after the court hearing. Ani saw her family murdered and is the government's eyewitness. Daniel was assigned to keep Ani safe and grounded while she waited to testify. They both felt attraction when they first met and the phone calls just fed it. I could feel Ani's terror of what was happening around her and Daniel's need to keep her safe. When Daniel and Ani let that attraction go, their passion was flaming. Moving Target has a combination of danger that keeps you on the edge, hot passion and heady suspense of not only will they make it but what will happen to Daniel and Ani afterwards. Ms. McCray has delivered suspense for readers who like to have some danger and adventure with their romance. Jo reviewed for Joyfully Reviewed

Anistana King has been living in Bisbee, Arizona for the last year, almost two years since having witnessed the murder of her family by the Russian mob. She's been safely ensconced within the Witness Protection program, awaiting the day she can stand in court and testify. Her personal Inspector, US Marshall Daniel Parker has been her only link to her former life and she looks forward to his phone calls with joy and an ever growing amount of love. Two days before the trial, after having lived inconspicuously for a year, she makes a fatal mistake and calls someone from her former life, trying to help out an innocent boy and his family. When Daniel finds out, he is desperate to get to her. He never told her that the Russian mob had put a hit out on her and have announced enormous rewards for her whereabouts. The mob was monitoring her former friends and family's phone calls and they caught her slip. Immediately, she and Daniel are thrust into dangerous situation after dangerous situation while trying to get from Arizona to New York for the trial. Daniel is delighted to finally see the woman who he's been falling in love with but is near frantic with worry with his need to keep her safe and alive. He lost someone under his protection long ago and he's determined that this time he's going to be ever vigilante and never leave her side. His cloak of professionalism fades however when they are alone and his passion for her overtakes his oath as a Marshall. The danger never lets up once they are in New York and the mob only gets more determined to stop her testimony. Unfortunately, the Marshalls and Daniel have been keeping a secret from Ani that comes out while she's on the witness stand. It shakes her up and threatens the security of her love for Daniel, a love that has kept her stable throughout this tumultuous time. Shaken but still determined, and with enough evidence to bring down the biggest mob family in America, Ani must stand on her own two feet and do this alone. She does so proudly, but at the end of the day she wants nothing more than to lay in Daniel's arms and hope that she can face her new life with him by her side.
When you start Moving Target the action is non stop.....and this is not a good thing. We are barely introduced to the characters of Ani and Daniel before they are dodging bullets, racing across highways, cars are exploding and RPGs are flying. It's like being dropped into a war zone. Daniel and Ani barely interact with each other in the beginning except to duck the flying barrage. One of the flaws of the story is because this book is about the trial, we missed the beginning stages of the romance between Daniel and Ani. They've already known each other for a year and they've only spoken on the phone. We are told about their great telephone romance rather than see it unfold, so when our hero and heroine are running for their lives, I could have cared less. The nonstop action actually made it tedious and I found myself flipping ahead trying to get to some actual storyline. The action is written in a very disjointed manner, almost put in outline form and I was very disappointed. I had heard so much about Cheyenne McCray I wondered if perhaps I had the wrong book, or maybe an unfinished, unrevised copy. The lengths the mobsters go to kill Ani is ludicrous. Let's put it this way, if I ever witnessed a crime and needed to be put in Witness Protection, I would say no way. That's a one way ticket to heaven because according to Cheyenne McCray, WITSEC is a bunch of incompetent men and women. The US Marshalls protect Ani by simply using as many human shields as possible around her while the guns are blazing. Seriously, how many leaks could they possibly have? The only time Daniel and Ani really interact is when they are rolling around in bed. The story finally slows down enough to allow for some intimacy and while I'll admit that this is where Cheyenne McCray shines, I wasn't aware I was reading an erotic novel. I thought I was reading romantic suspense. There is a good build up of sexual tension and the author didn't rush it. After a year of imagining this moment, Daniel and Ani don't devour each other but engaged in an erotic exploration of each others' bodies that I thought was very steamy. The big reveal of Ani and her sister was seen a mile away and it created a very uninspired Big Misunderstanding. While I'm sure testifying against the Russian mob was a huge undertaking and it sucked a lot of courage from Ani, she spends most of the time throughout the book bemoaning the loss of her family and fawning over Daniel. She's as interesting as a wet dishrag. When she finally develops a spine and accuses him of betrayal, it was jarring and in my humble opinion, not on track with this character's personality. She seemed to be just floating along after the US Marshalls like a witless doll and didn't appear to fight for anything. Even when she thinks Daniel is going to walk out of her life, she doesn't even try to convince him to stay. Daniel wasn't much better either. We can only assume that through his job as a US Marshall, he's a big, bad alpha male, out to enforce the day and claim his woman, but we never really see any personality from him. He's also as interesting as a wet dishrag. It also doesn't say much about him if he can fall in love with someone as uninspiring as Ani. All in all, this was a boring, disjointed read, plus there wasn't any humor to help liven up the drab. The bad guys were over the top and one dimensional. The whole book was unexciting and I couldn't care one way or the other about anyone in the book. At one point, Daniel was in an explosion and I basically thought, oh good, the story's over now. I can't recommend Cheyenne McCray's Moving Target but I can say she writes a darned good love scene so maybe try one of her erotic novels.

Non-stop action and romantic tension,

This review is from: Moving Target (Mass Market Paperback)
An innocent phone call to her former life has unwanted consequences for Ani. Inducted into the Witness Security program after watching the Russian mafia murder her parents and then turn the gun on Ani and her sister before setting the family home on fire, she is relocated to a small Arizona town. Alone in the world, her only solace become the calls from her handler, Marshall Daniel Parker, who immediately jumps to action when he discovers that his witness is in jeopardy. Both have been attracted to each other since she was first put into protective custody, but when they are forced into close quarters on the road, their attraction heats up, as the Russian Mafia seem to be one step ahead of them on their way to the trial.
This was my first novel by McCray, and it is fueled with plenty of romantic tension and edge of your seat action. The forbidden love between witness and handler makes the romance even more compelling, as well as the betrayals Ani discovers along the way. I really enjoyed the story and plan to seek out more titles by this author.

Fast paced fun read. Ani and Daniel make a great couple. The chemistry was hot between the two of them. My only complaint was the super repetitive use of the word folds during the sex scenes. It was a little annoying. Other than that I really liked the book.

Museum Curator Ani King was shot along with her family. She survived they did not. Now the killer, one Dmitry Borenko, a member of good (should I say bad) standing in the Russian Mafia wants her dead and will stop at nothing to make it so, especially before she gets a chance to testify against him.Enter the United States Government, the Witness Protection Program (WITSEC) and Deputy Marshall David Parker and Ani goes undercover and that's where she's supposed to stay, right up till she testifies, but sometime stuff happens that is beyond your control. She makes a phone call to help a wounded child and now the mob knows where she is. Back to Marshall David Parker, he's fallen in love with his charge. This is a no no, but like I said, sometimes stuff happens. David has to keep Ani alive, not only because the government needs her to testify, but because she's become the love of his life. I loved the sizzling romance in this book. I loved the characters, especially Ani, and I really loved the thrills in this action packed, romantic thriller. Passion, danger and a darned good story. Reading doesn't get any better than that.

In an effort for full disclosure, I have been in a reading slump lately. Not much has kept my attention, and there have been several books I have started and not finished. Luckily, THIS isn't one of those books. I loved this one from cover to cover. There is nonstop action and hotness between Ani and Daniel. Up against all odds, she had backbone and gumption and steel determination. Daniel tried, he really tried to see her as only his charge, but all those weekly phone calls, really cemented her in his life and finally gave up being her Marshall and became her protector, lover and best friend all rolled up in one nice hot package. There is one big secret that threatens their relationship, it was a secret you can easily figure out early on in the book, but I don't think knowing it took away from the story at all. This wasn't your normal who-done-it book, as you know who did it, you are just waiting to see if they can do it to her. An all in all great romantic suspense read.

Moving Target is a winner!,
This review is from: Moving Target (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book I have read by Cheyenne McCray and she certainly did not disappoint me. I like a romantic suspense book that goes into quite a bit of detail and develops the characters and of course I love a love story. This book covers everything I look for in a book. I was able to finish the book in less than 2 days!
The details that the writer brought to the book about the witness security program, the crimes committed and the depth of caring and concern between the two main characters kept my interest. I am sure this is a book I will be reading again and again. I would definely recommend this book to everyone |
