Book Description

Moving to Thailand for a year, or to live out the rest of your life in retirement can be an easy and fun transition with the help of this book.

(Book contents updated 6/2011)

After you move to Thailand you'll notice some things:

1. You're not stressed out over all the fear-mongering from the evening news, newspapers, and talk radio in your home country.
2. You don't give a second thought to getting a ticket as you drive.
3. You're eating healthier food than maybe you ever have.
4. There are more things to do in a boring part of Thailand than in some of the best places in your home country.
5. $1,000 USD goes really far!
6. You feel like a completely different person. In fact, you can BE a completely different person.

This moving to Thailand guide covers everything you'd want to know before you move.

This guide also covers ways to make money in Thailand in addition to teaching - which most expats find, works for a while, but not forever.

This is a realistic, and constantly updated guide (6/2011) that will help you ease into the transition of moving from abroad to the land of smiles.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some interesting facts but not very balanced September 7, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
The author studiously ignores the other side of Thailand. The pro Thailand things are fine as far as they go. But he does not mention endemic corruption, dual pricing, the death rates on the roads, the high murder rate, and the attitude from some Thais towards foreigners. A good book spoiled by a complete lack of balance. Would be very misleading for those not familiar with Thailand. One reviewer noted he did not mention home ownership in Thailand. The reason of course is that land can not be owned by a foreigner and must be in the name of a Thai person or company.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good first read for potential expats August 7, 2011
By Fly Guy
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
I'm not considering living in Thailand. But having lived in Mexico, and visited a number of countries, I like to read of others' experience and daydream a bit.

For the price this seems like an excellent first read for someone considering living in Thailand, especially for those who have never had to deal with a non-Western culture and mindset. Actually I would like to see the cultural adjustment part expanded.

The author's many references and website mentioned throughout are a big plus, and he says he periodically updates it...so I suppose that means buyers of the Kindle version can always get the latest.

All-in-all a worthwhile purchase, even for voyeurs like me.

I have been traveling to Thailand for 7 years. I am married to a Thai woman and I can say that this book is spot on. You might think that you get it, that you are ready, and you would be ill prepared. This book will answer questions you never thought to ask. It will illuminate the mysteries of Thai culture. It wont answer every question not solve every puzzle but it will certainly educate you and help you make better decisions. remember in Thai culture good manners go a long ways. Read this book and learn what to avoid and how to avoid the common mistakes most foreigners make. don't let the polite smile fool you and never forget a pissed off Thai is dangerous.....

4.0 out of 5 stars Living in Thailand December 30, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The book provides a lot of valuable information for those planning to move and live in Thailand. One thing I found missing was info about accommodations, real-estate. When you move to Thailand could you buy without any restrictions a house, condo or apartment or you should rent it. What are the prices in different parts and so on. I hope author will update this info with the next edition of his book. Otherwise the book is very good.

1.0 out of 5 stars BUYER BEWARE....LOADS OF FAKE PAID FOR REVIEWS June 6, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
This is an extraordinarily low quality work. Here is what really get's me though! 70% of this guys reviews are fake and he just employed someone from Fiverr to bash our book that is actually of good quality versus his heap of utter trash.

Search for, The Ultimate Guide to Moving to Thailand'. Download them both. If the book is not 10x as good I'll buy them both for you! Peruse these reviews....their are nearly all faked!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great reference to start a new lifestyle September 27, 2010
Format:Kindle Edition
The first few pages of this book really jumped out and held me, except for the locations he could of been talking about me 6 years ago feeling the the high stress and wanting to escape. I escaped to the Philippines, but now am thinking to splitting my time between the Philippines and Thailand.

I think for those who are just starting to consider moving out of their home country to another, Mike has some very good advise and this book is a must read. I would also recommend it for anyone who has never traveled to Thailand or any other Asian country. The points on cultural is very important.

The sections on cost is very good and his discussions of how he lived on $300 a month brings it together. One minor negative point is that the cost charts are hard to read and does not seem to enlarge.

His book is also different from others that deal with living in Thailand is that it is more geared to your average fed up person. Many other books are geared toward retirees while this one gives valuable information about earning a living. Others are geared to those who are sex tourist, while this one shows more about fitting into the community and not the subcultural of the sex industry.

This book is now in my kindle and will be a welcomed reference on my next trip.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Realistic Primer for Living in Thailand January 22, 2011
Format:Kindle Edition
A lot of books focus on the upper end Vacation traveler
giving all the positives of a place. However if you plan on living / retireing
to a country you need the negatives as well.Mike give you a very honest and realistic view in this book about what it takes to live in Thailand.

If your planning to retire there or just on vacation its a good book to read prior to your arrival. He brought to light things I wasn't thinking about prior to reading his book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Read, worth a look April 1, 2011
By AJ
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
On looking at the "cover" of this book it was instantly categorised into a unjust category.

The book provides good information regarding Thailand, its culture and the strange but wonderful things that occur.
It would have been useful to have a map when reading that you could look at the demonstrated where locations were that were mentioned.
I found that the writer was helpful yet brief in his comments.
The disclaimer at the end truly made me laugh! Every persons experiences will be different yet this book is defiantly worth the money that you pay if you don't know a great deal about Thailand.

More About the Author

Hi, I'm Mike...

Visit me at my author site: MikeFook.com and join my New Book List where I announce new books and short stories first - eepurl.com/EsxV1 - just copy paste that URL into your browser.

Recently I wrote 3 short stories. I'll be releasing them here at Amazon for 99 cents each:

1. The Red Room
2. Alex
3. Going Down

I now have 2 books in the Thailand's Sickest Series:

1. Thailand's Sickest
2. Thailand's Sickest - Hell to Pay

The topics I choose to write about are always important to me. My fiction novels are filled with direct experiences I've had over my lifetime.

Thanks to those that continually send me motivational email. Sometimes I'd rather get those than have someone buy a book! It can be more rewarding to see an email from someone that doesn't know me personally - but loves my work, than it is to get $1.78 when a book sells.

Cheers,

MF
