This review is from: Moving Air Through Fans and Ducts (Tech-Set Series) (Tech-Set Series) (Tech-Set Series) (Tech-Set Series) (Paperback)
I thought this book would offer guidance, in a quantitative fashion, that a non-specialist but technically trained person could use. Being an engineer (electrical) I expected to be able to follow analysis and air flow characterization discussions that explained physical principles and expressed things in (not necessarily derived) equation form. This doesn't seem to be the book's purpose, however. It is more like a detailed handbook that a specialist might find useful. As an example of the kind of result I would have welcomed (the original reason I liked the title), I would have liked to know the loss of flow in cfm (or velocity or pressure) in a duct as a function of duct length for a given fan characteristic. Or, how to compute (or approximate) the performance of a cascade of two fans as a function of the distance between them...

Approximations would have been fine - especially if accompanied by physical reasoning that motivated them. I realize that fluid dynamics and transport phenomena are complex - I just wanted to avoid the deeper investigation so I could build a basement exhaust system with some intelligent basis for the system dimensions.

Fan Handbook by Beier was more helpful, although still not exactly what I was seeking. Maybe I was hoping for too much and should bite the bullet and sit down with a fluid dynamics book. If I only had the time...
