Slow drums? On this record?,

Funny, funny stuff in the reviews. These guys are in their 20s, not 40s. Hathwell is a beast on the drums, changing time signatures at the blink of an eye. The bass is heavy. Guitars sound very Gang of Four. Live, you'll freak. Last time I saw them the crowd was pretty much models and pretty boys, and everyone was dancing like it might go out of fashion. The EP is hot. HOTT (with two T's!)!! Buy it, you cheapskate...

This EP is simply great. It's just a bummer that there are only 4 songs on it. Fortunately, MU is working on their first major label record right now, and it should be out in a few months. I predict that these guys will be the next big band. If you like the Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Irving, etc, check out this record. Very "cool" "hip" garage rock. And it's only a couple bucks. What have you to lose?

For four songs under 5 minutes each, I'm not going to kill you with a massive word count here, but the Moving Units are definitely worth mentioning. Take equal parts Strokes and Rapture with a dash of Interpol, make them Californian, and you'd get something pretty close to this EP. Yep, there's ZERO innovation here, but they do it so much better than all the other 2nd-tier wannabe disco-punks that you'll forgive 'em (you'll put away your Erase Errata and Go Go Go Airheart albums for sure); at best, on track one, they nearly match their influences, with an infectiously danceable bassline straight out of "Echoes", some minor key wailing cribbed from "Turn on the Bright Lights", and a melodic chorus that's pure Strokes. If you like this stuff, it's guaranteed to hit the spot. No masterpiece, for sure, but at the price it's an absolute STEAL.

this is every bit as good as the rapture's echoes. and its an ep, so monotony is all youre typically gonna get out of an ep at best. i dont get the complaining on the other reviews. this sound is now. this sound is fierce. this sound makes you wanna dance. get with it people. put it on. shake your ass

I saw them live, they opened for Blur in July. It's a new style, if you like Blur, I'm sure you can feel it. The EP is quite dry, I hope the LP will show what their made of, in the talent sense.

Moving Units is probably what would happen if The Rapture made it with The Strokes and their children, in an act of rebellion, moved to California and casually dated Hot Hot Heat. This 4 song EP gives you a pretty good idea about what Moving Units is about. Mostly, dancing your butt off. It's fun, but it feels like there's something missing. Probably more tracks and a fleshed out sound. Either way, it's good and I'd reccommend it to anyone who is tired of only hearing mall punk on the radio anymore.

I first heard MOVING UNITS on the best radio show in the States, "Morning Becomes Eclectic" on SoCal's KCRW, and it immediately caught my ear. The catchiness of "X and Y" compelled me to search out this band. After I bought the ep, i was very delighted! Three of the four songs were of equal calliber to "X and Y". "I Am" definately being my favorite. I've found myself continually playing the four songs over and over, dancing & singing to every spin. All I could think is that I want MORE! This band is definately fun and can put anyone in the best of moods and WILL make you wanna move your body. For fans of THE RAPTURE, GANG OF FOUR, THE STROKES, THE JUDYS, and even BLUR... get this and you won't be disappointed.

wow, this is a really good ep, ive been waiting for this to come out on cd for a while, and now it has fianly arrived! this may only be a four song ep but it packs a punch, the moving units play post or disco type punk resembaling bands like the rapture and hot hot heat. the moving units are a band from the LA area, as am i, and they bring their records to a local shop so i got this cd the first week it came out, and all i can say to you after listening to this cd for three days straight is, buy this! you will not be disappointed.

Hot Hot Heat is a good band to compare Moving Units to, but they are in no uncertain terms "the same". The songs on this EP are catchy and upbeat, with a distinctive vocal sound. On the first listen you will toe-tap, on the second you'll hum along, and by the third time around you'll be familiar with lines like, "Hello...okay...hello...let's play" and "let's go...to the...disco...for melo...drama." You'll be tickled by Moving Units take on the club scene and social relationships. This is a near-perfect grouping of songs, faulted only by the songs overlapping eachother in pace. An excellent buy for the price.

Saucy suburban kids flirt with electro-rock and disco-beats, the end result: pensive dance-punk for your next ballroom freakout! A decent debut offering using live guitar, bass and drums, with the strength of the EP in the first track, "Between Us and Them."
