OVERLOOKED!,
By MUSIC MANIAC (Oregon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Moving Violation (Rstr) (Audio CD)
The best of the latter day J5 records, this is blazing from beginning to end. The title track should have been huge, I love this string section in this song. Classic Motown, and the play on words, comparing a traffic violation to a discretion in a relationship is also pure Motown, comparable to "Stop! In the Name of Love". "You Were Made Especially For Me" and "Honey Love" follow the title track and keeps the party going. The only single to be released from this excellent album was the cover of the Supremes "Forever Came Today". If you listen to the J5's version next to the Supremes version you'll notice that the arrangement goes beyond just a typical disco-fied version of the original. "Body Language" kicks off side two (yes I still think of this as an LP rather than a CD), not one of my faves, but still pretty good. THe only ballad on here comes next "All I Do Is Think Of You". Not much to say about this, it's pretty. That's about it. The next three songs (Breezy, Call of the Wild and Time Explosion) end this album on a high note. I prefer this one to anything from their time spent on Epic records. Where the songs on "Victory" for instance sound dated, the songs here still sound fresh. Is it just me?

Final Motown Effort,
This review is from: Moving Violation (Rstr) (Audio CD)
Moving Violation incorporates alot of strings into the dance mix and it produces a bigger sound. Their remake of The Supremes' "Forever Came Today" is an over the top opus. The title track is a funky number while the closing two songs "Call Of The Wild" and "Time Explosion" are explosive. Moving Violation was the last album the band ever recorded for Motown and the last until 1984's Victory that Jermaine sang with the band.

The Jackson 5 were running out steam at Motown by the time this came out. However, there are some nice cuts on this album. "Body Language", "Forever Came Today" are just a couple.
