5.0 out of 5 stars Mox. What more can you say?
I occasionally found it useful to close my eyes & pretend I was at Charles de Gaulle airport in 1967 with a tribe of Bedoins passing through and a gentle snow wafting from the plexiglas sky. But that is only ONE of the many dimensions of Mox.

I purchased this album in the summer of 1998 and I still listen to it all the time. It is sad they never released more material. There is something so refreshing and life-inspiring about Mox's music. It really gives me a feeling of happiness everytime I play the CD!

I've listened to this CD over and over and over again since I first got it in 1998 and it gets better with time. It is lush. Captivating. Atmospheric. Haunting. It's very difficult to describe really -- just get it and be glad that your life is enriched all the more as a result of listening to it.

Ambient, ethereal, uplifting - I don't know how else to describe this music. Very enjoyable "mood" music. My favorites are -

Loop and Sprocket -
Close your eyes and you can be anywhere.

If you like ambient music - you might like this.

I'm glad they came along.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soundtrack for Soaring Beyond the Beyond!, March 18, 1999
This review is from: Mox (Audio CD)
Mox blew my Sox off! Who are these guys? They are in a dimension all their own; at the same time their music serves as the gateway to your own personal inner wow-wave. I was working at a metaphysical bookstore in Seattle last summer when I discovered them. I loved to crank it and we had speakers out on the street - it was such a rush to see who would be next to dash into the store saying "Who IS this? I have to have it!" MOX taps deep into those who are of like frequency. I really want to learn more about MOX; all I know is they are from San Francisco. Can any one fill me in? I'll be first in line to buy their next release. Hear the call!

5.0 out of 5 stars New Local Universe Creator god Is Now On The Planet: MOX., January 19, 1999

This MOX is quite addictive in all sorts of ways. The journey moves the Energy Field to new levels of unheard of validation. From the first note to the last breath, I can only just sit in trance or move about in exctatic now-ness. I do not understand why this music is not number one on the Planet. We would like to know about the name and the time coordinates of your next CD. This is Music. Thank You!

4.0 out of 5 stars Unfortunately, All The Mox We're Ever Gonna Get., April 1, 2003
This review is from: Mox (Audio CD)
This is an outstanding collection. Lush, deep, spiritual and best enjoyed when you can truly experience it, versus relegating it to mega-hip background music. Granted, it is a tad disjointed, considering it was culled from the private releases that preceded it. But this release has plenty for just about everyone, and it more than holds its own among the Enigmas, Peter Gabriels and Brian Enos of the world. Best of all, if you wind up playing it around other people, chances are they'll ask you "Who is that?" using a tone of voice that just might make you feel slightly hip again.

Mox- Mox (RGB Records 505-2)

Let me say right now, that I really did try to be open minded with this record. I've listened to it for a number of weeks on a regular basis, and even though it has grown on me, I have lost count of the number of times I have wanted to wrench it out of the cd player. It's not that it's bad, it's just that it is not that interesting. Stylistically it will appeal to those people that like the music of say Enigma or Deep Forrest, maybe this is even who they are marketing this outfit at. All I know is that I find this all frightfully devoid of substance and at times downright dull. The point is it should work. You take some aspects of world music, mix it in with samples ranging from Brian Eno's Thursday Afternoon to Gregorian and Islamic chant, Indian vocals akin to Sheila Chandra, a generous amount of electric guitar in the style of sixties surf music, mix in upbeat percussion, some synthesisers, bring in Stephen Hill from Hearts Of Space to master it, and if it is done properly, even though you may have borrowed left right and centre, if you have done your homework right, chances are you're on a winner. This I quite like when it's playing in the background. It's harmless enough, but as soon as I start thinking about what's happening or how these guys are putting the track together, I get annoyed with it. The most memorable track for me is Fez which features an Indian beat, complete with drone and a flute hovering above the melody line. Simple and effective. All the tracks are virtually under five minutes, which comes as a shock to me as I like my pieces to develop. Mox are three musicians who have been together as this entity since 1992 and by what I have read compose for tv, fashion awards, art shows, sound installations etc. They hail from San Francisco and this is their debut album, composed of material from three private releases. The real problem with this is that it's all over the place and this is fundamentally where it has gone wrong. It's almost as if this outfit is trying to cram as much as they can into one recording, to say this is what we have been influenced by and this is what we came up with. I'm not saying that Mox are not talented. Also I have to remember I'm not really the person they are aiming this at, so maybe you should all search the net and find some more reviews of this and see what other folks are saying. All I know is I would rather go out and search for the source of all these samples and listen to those. 14-7-98
