An excellent and enjoyable overview, February 7, 2006
This review is from: Mozambique (Major World Nations) (Library Binding)
This book is intended for older children, but how many adults actually know much about Mozambique? The book is excellent as an introduction to the country's geography, cultures, government, and history. In fact, the history is well written. The book looks at the eras of the independent kingdoms, the invasion and colonization of the country by the Portuguese, independence, subsequent civil war and the situation of the country since the end of that war. There is a good map at the beginning of the book as well as nice photos (albeit some are a bit dated)of the various areas and peoples of the country. The text is of fine quality and does a good job of reporting in an unbiased manner. I came away from this book knowing much more about a beautiful country than when I had begun reding.
