Editorial Reviews

As the world celebrates the 250th anniversary of the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in 2006, Sony Classical is ringing in the milestone year with the release of Mozart 250: A Celebration, a multifaceted collection of the composer's music that offers an unparalleled introduction to his genius, all for the price of a single full-priced CD. Included are a two-disc set of highlights from Mozart's masterpieces--including orchestral, chamber, instrumental, operatic and choral works--as well as a special bonus disc entitled Serene and Sublime--The Great Mozart Adagios, featuring the composer's music at its most beautiful and seductive.

The collection brings together landmark Mozart recordings by George Szell and the Cleveland Orchestra, James Levine and the Vienna Philharmonic, the Budapest String Quartet, conductors Sir Colin Davis and Rafael Kubelik, pianists Rudolf Serkin and Alicia de Larrocha, violinist Pinchas Zukerman, flutist Sir James Galway, harpist Marisa Robles, and such singers as Leontyne Price, Dame Margaret Price and Thomas Quasthoff.

This review is from: Mozart 250: A Celebration [Box Set] (Audio CD)
This three disc set is great if you are just getting into the genius that is Mozart. Most of the recordings are of a high quality and the final disc, "Serene and Sublime" which showcases Mozart's music at its most beautiful, is really great. And for the price you really can't go wrong. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to be introduced to Mozart's music.
