This review is from: Mozart: Così fan tutte (Audio CD)
This Cosi deserves a reivew so consumers will give it a try. I love this recording. It is a sparkling live performance in good clear sound. I enjoyed the singing of all performers, espceially Teresa Stich Randall, one of my favorites. Although not early in her career, she does a wonderful job in her solo arias and in the duets, trios, etc. Her singing is beautiful. All the other singers are pros and do an excellant job. While Janis Martin is not a mezzo, she does a fine job as Dorabella. Feller is wonderful as Don Alfonso. It's nice to hear him at this stage of his career. He repeated the role about 20 years later in the Ostman early music performance, and he sounded much older, although still fine, in that recording. I should warn that Despina's disguised voice is very nasal and hard to take. But, that's the way the role was written. For Maag fans, his conducting is warm and beautiful. There are some cuts that may bother the purists, but they did not bother me. The two discs are well filled and anyone who loves Cosi will love this production. Bravo to Maag and company.
