A good bargain,

This review is from: Mozart: Piano Concerti Nos. 21 ("Elvira Madigan"), 14 & 23 (Audio CD)
A well filled bargain disk of three of Mozart's best-known concertos in excellent performances. Walter Klien was a fine Mozart pianist, as his discs of the sonatas show. These are probably recordings made by Vox in the late 1950s. There is absolutely no documentation with the disc, Klien's name is spelled wrong, and the orchestra and conductor are not given. Well worth it at the price for the performances, and might make a good gift for somebody getting started in clasical music.

This review is from: Mozart: Piano Concerti Nos. 21 ("Elvira Madigan"), 14 & 23 (Audio CD)
The two Mozart masterpieces here (21 & 23) get fine performances from Walter Klein and an unnamed orchestra. As a bonus, Mozart's earlier and less substantial 14th Piano Concerto is played too slowly and has little charm or excitement. Like most of the earlier Mozart Piano Concerti, individual recordings at budget prices are hard to find. Fortunately, many complete sets are available and I would suggest purchasing one. Even the earliest Mozart concerti are quite enjoyable and No. 9 is a bonafide masterwork.
