4.0 out of 5 stars Highly recommended, you can't go wrong, January 21, 2006
This review is from: Mozart's Money (Audio CD)
I picked this up in a used cd store after a trial listen, and wasn't disappointed. I bought it a few years back, and always return to this to listen. I have two of his others, and this is definitely the best. The lyrics are good, the guitar work strong, and some of the songs just resonate with me. Main Street Sky for example, or Friends of a Traveller. The other cuts are good too. For 3.08 plus shipping you can't go wrong. I have played this for other friends, and they have confirmed my judgement that this is one fine cd. I agree with A Music Fan's review; give this a trial listen, then buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful reacquaintance, June 6, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Mozart's Money (Audio CD)
I hadn't heard Hugh's singing since open-mike nights at the college coffeehouse, until I found "Mozart's Money". Becoming reacquainted with his precise, colorful words and sometimes incisive, sometimes wistful music was purely delightful. Since then I have bought all of his commercially-available albums, as well as his political-humor collection (only available on his website), and while it would be very difficult to choose a favorite, "Mozart" wins, on the strength of the title song, "Waiting for the Good Humor Man", "The Visit" and "Friends of a Traveler"--my all-time favorites of Hugh's songs. You can still hear the college coffeehouse in his voice, which brings back sweet memories, underneath the grownup who has witnessed and lived through much joy and sadness. He has a special talent for recalling childhood without melodrama, and for showing us the flashes of brilliance in what might otherwise be considered ordinary folks. His instrumental work, as well as that of his supporting musicians, is a perfect fit to his words--never overpowering, always gracing the lyrics. It's hard to imagine improving on this album. Even those people who think they don't care for folk music (I once would have counted myself in that category)would like this album. Give it a listen and you won't be disappointed.
