When I received and opened this item and read the instructions, the first thing I noticed was that I should thoroughly clean the item after each use, but could find no instructions, other than to put it in a dishwasher, on how to accomplish the task. Since I also own and use a Jaccard 18 knife Tenderizer which has removable blades for easy cleaning, I assumed this one also had removable blades, but could find no way to remove the blades without completely disassembling the unit. In an attempt to solve this problem I emailed the distributor direct for an answer to this problem, (and those of you who have used this type of tenderizer know very well that it is a big problem to clean these units with the blades attached.) The answer I received from the company basically said to "put it in a dishwasher, or soak it." But the insulting comment attached to the email suggested that "we should let him return it, because of the blades we don't need to fall into that trap." Insinuating that I was attempting to set them up. All I did was ask for a little customer service. Based on all of this, I will just eat my loss, since I intend to replace this dud with a JACCARD 45 blade, for just a small amout more. The time I will save in trying to clean this thing will make the Jaccard a bargain, even at double the price. Anyone who could write a good review for this item simply has not used a well designed tenderizer, as this one certainly is not. Don't make the mistake of saving 4 or 5 dollars by buying this brand. It's just not worth the inconvenience of taking a gazillion times longer to clean it than to tenderize the meat. This purchase has cured me from ever being tempted to buy a CHEF-MASTER product in the future. Poor design + poor customer service.

I ordinarily do not write comments about a given product, but
there are on occasion, products that must be given a review and
this is one of them. Discovered this item at a local discount store a couple of years ago. This is by far, the best, hand-held
meat tenderizer one can have. I use it on a regular basis and
have had inexpensive cuts of beef feel and taste like I'm eating
prime cuts. The rating system for this product should be 10 stars!!! Excellent product!!!

it works great, but the meat sticks in the blades and they are hard to reach to clean them. I was dissappointed in that.

It took longer to clean then to tenderize!!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Meat Tenderizer, December 6, 2005
This review is from: Mr. Bar-B-Q Meat Tenderizer (Kitchen)
This Meat Tenderizer works well. By having all those blades pierce the meat, it breaks down the connective tissues, thereby - tenderizing the meat. It also allows for marinates to really soak into the meat easier, cutting down on marinate time and having fully marinated meats. The method works, the design is good. It's a good, solid product. My only complaint is that it's hard to clean. The blades are extremely sharp, so you want to be very careful. There are 3 rows of sharp blades and the blades are non-removable. Each blade is gets coated with meat juice and bits of meat, yet you can't scrub each blade. Running it under hot water and scrubbing the outside with soapy hot water is about the best I could do for a good clean. I think the inner blades were cleaned enough with this method, but it's a bit of a pain to ensure cleanliness.

Even with that one con I would recommend this item.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very effective & easy to sterilize, May 14, 2007

This is a surprisingly heavy-duty meat tenderizer. Slam roasts and thick steaks as hard as you like, you won't hurt it.

What everyone seems to object to is the fact that you cannot take it apart to expose the blades for individual cleaning. Frankly, it's probably an excellent idea that people cannot get at the individual blades. As sharp as those blades are I can just imagine everyone complaining about how they cut themselves to shreds if they could get at the blades....

Look, here's what you do... Wash the tenderizer off in hot water, or soak it if you want in hot soapy water. Rinse it off. The key is this: the storage recepticle that you put the blade/handle assembly is perfect for you to pour alcohol into. Yes, pure rubbing alcohol. And you don't even have to put more than about six ounces of alcohol into it. Then you simply replace the blade/handle assembly into it, and store it, in the alcohol.

When you get ready to use the tenderizer again, just take it out of the receptible, pour the alcohol out, rinse the blade/handle assembly off, and start tenderizing. I've done this around forty times and I haven't gotten food poisoning yet!

I had always used a mallet type tenderizer for those tougher cuts of meat, but this little gadget does a much better job, and allows marinade to really get into the meat... Thanks !!

Awesome. Made boeuf borguignon, country style steak and chicken fried steak the first week I owned it. Even using rump roast which can be a bit tough at times, the tenderizer made the meat fork tender.
I had no real problems with cleanup. After use, just drop it in water, then wash it using a short kitchen type bristle brush.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great kitchen gadget, September 16, 2007

We Texans love our chicken fried steak, and this handy kitchen gadget will tenderize round steak to perfection, the first step in achieving culinary nirvana of the chicken fried steak type.

It's also quite useful when used to pierce meat in preparation for marinating. Don't go overboard with the piercing, you don't want to pulverize the meat.

Easy to use, doesn't require great strength. Easy to clean.

I have one, and have purchased two as gifts, and both recipients have expressed their delight.

This product really helps tenderize the meat and allow your marinade to thoroughly penetrate the meat. Easy to use, too.
