I loved it!,

On the other hand, in comparison to what the prior reviewer said, I loved it, as have others that I have shared it with. As many well done independent films are - its down-to-earth, honest, heart-warming approach is excellent and left me feeling kind. As to the father being a drunken man throughout the entire movie, I think maybe the reviewer missed the point. Why was he drunk? Wasn't his life challenged and wasn't his son's life challenged, just like the gal with Down syndrome was? The three are fighting for how they are perceived by society and striving to become as individuals despite the obstacles they each face. For anyone that has grown up with a family member with any kind of special need, whether alcoholism (especially do to the loss of a loved one) or Down syndrome, you will understand and love this excellent movie.

Very disappointing. Wouldn't recommend watching this movie with your children. I thought it would be a movie that we could enjoy as a family along with my seven year old daughter. The father of the young man who befriended the young woman with Down syndrome, portrayed a drunken man thoughout the entire movie. Several other folks in the movie sent negative thoughts very freely. The movie did although end on a positive note. After the young woman made a speech in front of an audience of school teachers and professionals. She did send some positve thoughts out to everyone. Interpeted towards the fact 'that people with Down syndrome are more alike all of us, than different'. That We like to be treated with respect' But we don't feel that most of the movie followed along in any positive manner leading up to this point.

Good Message, Poor Writing and Dialogue,
By Tristan Heberlein "tristano" (Seattle, WA United States) - See all my reviews

For the first hour I was on the verge of turning this movie off. The story line was a bit choppy, the writing and dialogue didn't flow like it should have. It had a low-budget, amateur, made-for-tv feel. The dialogue seemed a bit...exaggerated and over-acted. Some of the story didn't make sense. Seemed weird that as it followed these 3 kids into their adult life, they were all still living with their parents after college, while maintaining professions of their own.
With all that said, the overall story, and especially the ending had a good message, and it ultimately won over my heart. So in essence, I would give the message and intention 5 stars, but the execution only 1 star. Worth watching. |
