I've had this cocktail book for several years now and have been able to make nearly all the drinks in the book at this point. First, the book is easily laid out into categories that allow the mixologist to pick the type of drinks to make for their occasion (seasonal, punches, hot, creamy, or spirited). Nearly all of the drinks cover the fall and winter holiday season from Halloween & Thanksgiving to Christmas & New Years with ingredients and flavors that truly represent the time of year. Most of these drinks are excellent!! Flavorful, well balanced, and amazing drinks for casual nights in, family gatherings, or holiday parties and I've used this book for all those occasions with much success and gratitude by the imbibers. You do need a pretty stocked bar if you expect to make all the drinks in the book, but like most cocktail books there are both simple to acquire ingredients and harder to acquire ingredients and this book is not an exception although you should be able to make a good number with some pretty straight forward spirits and ingredients. There is some basic tips on tools and techniques in the beginning and throughout the book, which are good to have, but I'd say this isn't the book for the beginner and more for the novice and up. I'd give it 5 stars for the quality of the drinks and relative simplicity of the directions, but giving it 4 stars as there isn't much information about the drinks, where they came from, history, etc. that would have make it a more interesting read for those who want more from their books than just a list of recipes. Overall a wonderful book to have for those who like to get into the holiday spirit with some spirits.

Unfortunately there was not one recipe I was able to make. ALL recipes had truly ODD ingredients in it. I'm a former chef so I familiar with many obscure ingredients but this was like a google fest of obscure ingredients and then where do you find them once you figure out what it is. If I could return it I would -- useless!!!
