2.0 out of 5 stars Reliability is low, September 5, 2008

Feature summary
---------------
Robotic/animatronic clock radio with many functions
Entertaining, especially for kids
Many animated parts, including neck, mouth, eyelids, etc
Motion sensor allows Mr. Clock Radio to wake up and say silly things
Fortune mode answers "yes or no" type questions
Alarm clock

The level of animation promised is excellent for the price point. Unfortunately, there are severe quality control issues with the product.

The first one we received would suddenly reduce it's volume to the point that it is barely audible. Power cycling would bring it back for a while, but later, it would go back to a low volume. We got a replacement. The second one worked for about 6 weeks.

During that time, our guests were entertained by the silly sayings. Somehow, he would say "Something smells good. Must be supper time!" at the times we were preparing meals. "This place is a mess!" was another favorite saying.

When no one is around, Mr. Clock Radio sleeps. It can be set to announce the time at the 1/4 hour, 1/2 hour, or on the hour. It can wake you up with the radio or by saying something and shaking its head, etc. It also has a headphone jack so an MP3 player can be amplified and played through the built-in speaker. It has flashing lights on its head, that can be set to be steadily on as a nightlight. It has a battery backup to keep the time in case of a power outage.

Note that it will start moving its head, eyelids, etc. if it detects light at night time. If you are a light sleeper, this can be a nuisance. The time announcement can be suppressed between 8pm and 8am.

Even though it's initially entertaining, the novelty can wear off after a few days. You will have heard all the possible sayings by then and the repetition can be annoying. That's the point where you turn it to face a wall until some guest visits.

As mentioned above, the second Mr. Clock Radio lasted about 6 weeks. It just went to sleep and never woke up. Power cycling didn't help. The seller sent a replacement again. This one lasted a few days and its mouth stopped moving. After three duds, it was time to throw in the towel and get a refund.

It may be a selling point that Mr. Clock Radio lasts about as long as most adults can tolerate it. It would be wise to keep your receipt and box, either way.

2.0 out of 5 stars Fun Product That Quickly Falls Apart, August 12, 2008
By
This review is from: Mr Clock Radio Talking Robotic Clock Radio
The robot is cool and versatile. It has something for everyone. The product itself is innovative and fun. However....it's not worth the price considering that it doesn't last long. My Clock Robot quit working after 9 months of use....which outlasted my friend's Clock Radio which quit working after 4 months. Conveniently the warrently is only for 90 days. Both of us used this normally. For this price, I'd expect the product to at least last a year
