5.0 out of 5 stars Good Hot Coffee!!
Cute design for a "cheap" pot. You won't sneer about the price tag when you taste the coffee though. No funny aftertastes, just good hot coffee from a simple machine. This coffee maker is very user friendly, easy to pour water into the reservoir and measure the amount, and easy to fill and clean the brew basket. The design makes way more sense than my old hand-me-down...

1.0 out of 5 stars Stopped functioning after a month--Fire Hazard
My better-half and I looked at a great many coffee makers. We agreed that, largely, anything under $100 seemed to be hideously ugly, poorly-made, crap. Prior experience taught us that inexpensive coffee makers may last no longer than a year, so we decided not to pay for bells and whistles--even a timed shut-off--using the money saved to buy a *lot* of really good coffee...

The design makes way more sense than my old hand-me-down Cuisinart Brew Central. I don't even miss it having a clock or programmable settings. Obviously, price tag isn't everything: this coffee maker is a keeper!

One last thing...the box says it uses paper filters, but I bought a permanent filter for it and that works just fine and fits perfectly (buy a flat basket that says it will fit an 8-12 cup machine). You'll save a lot on filters in the long haul!

I am very happy with my Mr. Coffee. This model is simple, with a nice look and no clock or other computer stuff, which is fine for me. The machine brews great coffee and does so quickly! I only drink decaf and it comes out tasting smooth and non-silty. So far so good! I highly recommend this coffee maker.

Mr Coffee 12 cup Coffee Maker, does just what I want it to without a bunch of buttons and options to think about. And the coffee is superb. A good product plus a great price.

If you are a coffee drinker needing no bells and whistles, this machine is for you. I don't ask much from a $20 coffee pot except a decent cup of coffee. This Mr. Coffee delivers, and its design is a step up from our previous Mr. Coffee, which was also their cheapest model. It would be nice if the company worked on a carafe that pours without spilling though. I have never purchased any Mr. Coffee machines, cheap or expensive, that poured well. Having owned other brands, I know it's not the person pouring. Other than that, no problems.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr Coffee SR 13 12 cup coffee maker, November 17, 2009

I reviewed many different coffee makers after our Bunn which we had for 12 years or more starting leaking.
We had another Bunn before that one which we had for a few years. I checked the Consumers Report for their best buys in coffee makers and reviewed the comments and prices. Some of the reviews for their best buy coffee makers were not always good. Mr Coffee has many models and not always good reviews. I decided to go with Mr Coffee SR 13 which had all 5 stars on the reviews. Granted there was only 4 reviews. I just bought the basic Mr Coffee with out any bells and whistles; just put in the grounds, water and turn on the switch. It doesn't take too long for the coffee to brew and we turn off the switch after brewing and warm up any coffee consumed later in the microwave. We have had the maker only a month but so far it is great and makes a good cup of coffee.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stopped functioning after a month--Fire Hazard, March 16, 2010
This review is from: Mr Coffee 12 Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
My better-half and I looked at a great many coffee makers. We agreed that, largely, anything under $100 seemed to be hideously ugly, poorly-made, crap. Prior experience taught us that inexpensive coffee makers may last no longer than a year, so we decided not to pay for bells and whistles--even a timed shut-off--using the money saved to buy a *lot* of really good coffee beans, (we highly recommend the Sumatran coffee from World Market).

This coffee maker does what we want: It makes water properly hot, then filters that hot water into the carafe through the ground coffee. That's all it does--or need do. It isn't painful to look at and takes up minimum counter-space.

The maker takes 15-minutes to make a 12-cup carafe-full of great-tasting coffee.

We will buy another when this one conks out.

Not filterless: Requires buying flat-bottomed paper filters or a permanent filter.

>>> SINCE I GAVE THE ABOVE, 16 MARCH, REVIEW:

22 April

The coffee maker has ceased making coffee, instead producing clouds of steam which stripped the laminate off my cabinet. After ONE HOUR there were only two cups of coffee in the carafe and six left in the reservoir; the rest of the twelve cups of water--four cups--was turned to steam.

It now makes the water TOO hot and stops the flow into the carafe. As a Firefighter I see this as a fire hazard.

This coffemaker is being returned for a refund!

1.0 out of 5 stars Overall Very Poor, January 4, 2011
This review is from: Mr Coffee 12 Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
I usually make 4-6 cups. Spray arm doesn't coat coffee in basket. Stop cock doesn't hold water back when pot is off the heater. Coffee comes out weak. Very unsatisfied. How can a company that has been making coffee makers for decades come up with such a poor design?

2.0 out of 5 stars Adequate, October 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mr Coffee 12 Cup Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
I was looking for a bare-bones coffee maker that would fit in a fairly tight space, and that's what I got. I'm glad to have something without paying for things I won't use, like the ability to set it up to start automatically at some future time, and therefore avoiding yet another clock in the kitchen, and very glad that I can squeeze it into the same counter space occupied by my former coffeemaker, but it is disappointing that it is so cheaply made. The top of the water reservoir is particularly flimsy, and doesn't fit properly so that it closes cleanly. Also the heating plate only keeps the coffee lukewarm, and it is necessary to microwave it to get a hot cup of coffee.

We've had the 12-cup Mr Coffee (simple style) for less than a year. The warming plate just quit warming, so we're in the market for another maker.
At this point, we'll go with another one of these $20+ models, since our experience with more expensive models of different brands shows that no manufacturer seems to get much longevity from drip makers.

I recently purchased this coffee maker after my last one started to go downhill and am happy with my purchase. This is definitely a no frills, basic 12 cup coffeemaker but it works great, its easy to clean and it looks fine on the counter.
