Hang onto your receipt,

After reading the reviews for this and other coffee makers, I concluded everyone is having quality control problems. I sympathize with the folks who have gone through two or three lemons before finding something that performed as advertised. I've had that experience and it can make you crazy.
But I loved the cool looks of this thing the first time I saw one at the home of friends in Alma, Colo. They were happy with theirs and it performed well at 10,600 feet in the Colorado Rockies. So I rolled the dice and bought one at Wal-Mart, but took care to keep the receipt in case they were having a bad day on the Third World assembly line when my coffee maker was being built. I've used it daily for three weeks now and it's performed perfectly. No leaks, no overflowing, no fires or explosions. Just good coffee. And I like the fact that it turns itself off after two hours so I don't have to worry about whether I turned off the coffee maker when I'm out running my morning errands. MAY 2009 - It's still working fine, although my Colorado friends' machine crapped out sometime last year.

My experience with this coffeemaker was the same as the numerous reviews already written here. It just stopped working one day about three months after we bought it. JUST STOPPED WORKING. Of course, this was after the 90 day limited warranty, so there was forty dollars down the drain. We have friends who bought this same machine repeatedly, with the same results we had. I have gone so far as to catch someone in Wal-Mart who had this in their cart, and warn them about it. They promptly put it back and selected something else...heehee.
Oh yeah...like everybody else said...IT LEAKS!!!

This coffee maker is fantastic!!! My boyfriend remarked tonight that it is the best coffee maker he has ever owned so I thought we should do it justice and write a positive review. I will start out by saying we did have problems with the water filter so we just don't use it. The water filter made the coffee not taste too great and it also did indeed make the coffee overflow a bit, so perhaps this is the root of others' complaints. Previously, we have owned Brauns and Cuisinarts with horrible issues - much worse than a faulty water filter! Recently, we owned a very expensive DeLonghi Retro coffee maker for less than a year that was just awful. Out of the box, the carafe leaked and it took us 3 months to get a replacement which also leaked (and which DeLonghi made us pay for!!). We thought about getting a Cuisinart model which my best friend had at one time. I found out from him that that coffee maker stopped working after only a couple of months so he bought this model. I was so excited that we came straight to Amazon to buy it and saw all of the terrible reviews. We were reticient to purchase this model but my best friend kept going on and on with his glowing reviews and has owned his coffee maker for over a year and a half, so we took the chance. We are so happy that we did! The coffee it brews is delicious, the clock is very helpful (it actually tells you how long the coffee has been sitting there so you know if your coffee is burning) and it looks great too. By the manner of the construction, making coffee and cleaning the unit is easier. We really like the design of the carafe (the feel and shape of it in our hands), the design of the coffee basket and the water reservoir. We feel so bad about the bum rap this coffee maker has gotten and just want to say that it deserves a second look.

Well worth a few adjustments.,
This review is from: Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Cone Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
I just (finally) called customer services and was told how to fix the faulty installation of vent in the rear of the machine. I pulled it out, turned it over so the opening in the tube is on THE BOTTOM and made a pot of coffee with no puddle. (You can use a flashlight to check if the hole in the tube in your machine is on the top.)
I have also had to put a couple of little plastic protective pads on the bottom of the machine toward the back to make sure the coffee flows INTO the carafe. This machine has so many features and such great style that I have been willing to go through a little extra hassle to make it work. But most of all I like the coffee it makes. The cycle (on the 'strong' setting) takes longer than the Braun I was using but this seems to result in better coffee. (I didn't use the water filter on the Braun and I'm not using it on this machine either.)

I would give this coffee pot a NEGATIVE SCORE IF I COULD,
This review is from: Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Stainless (Kitchen)
We recieved this coffee pot as a Gift in December. Six months later, the tank (not the decantor!) I can't make coffee if the coffee pot leaks. Yes, the company has been cooperative; however, they made and sold a BOGUS coffee pot. (It is 5:30 in the morning, and I am MIFFED that that I can't make a cup of coffee.)

Water everywhere.,

Nice looking machine, nice features. Leaks water all over the place. Leaks outside the pot while brewing. Leaks condensed water down the back every time we open the top door. We have to keep a towel underneath, which probably isn't very safe. I've bought MR Coffees for over 15 years. Its apparently time to try something different.

leak resolved,

thought the coffee pot was great until we found the water leaking from the back of the machine. emailed customer service. here is the response:
There is a small rubber tube that goes into the back of your coffee maker. Please carefully remove that rubber piece, by gently pulling it out of the back of the coffee maker. Look very carefully at that rubber tube. There is a hole in the end that was inside the coffee maker. That hole is supposed to be facing down. If you replace the tube, by carefully pushing it in, making sure that the hole is facing down, it should correct the issue with it leaking. Silly that we have to do this but I thought it might help some of you.

How long have we been making drip coffeemakers???? this is not a new engineering feat. Mr. Coffee should be ashamed of this particular model. However, I do think that most drip coffee makers are "cheap" plastic. This model so far is the worst. YES THE COFFEE DOES RUN OUT ALL OVER THE COUNTER! Between the tilt of the coffee basket and the low flow stream of coffee runs down the outside of the carafe creating the coffee puddle.

I purchased this coffeemaker for $39 at Meijer on New Years day when my old Hamilton Beach Aroma whatever died. Happy New Year. I had considered getting the HB Brew Station but decided not to after reading all the bad reviews online.
I love this coffeemaker. It beeps when the coffee is done, you can adjust the temperature of the burner, you can get stronger coffee is you want (like New Years Day), the two-hour auto shutoff timer shows you how old your java is and is very easy to read, there is not a lot of evaporation since the pot fits snug against the filter basket... and it looks really cool! I bought the black and chrome model so the coffee stains won't show. The clock is easy to read and makes a nice nightlight in the kitchen. I had no problems programming it. If I want to see the time from across the room, I'll look at the microwave instead. I agree that the water filter is a waste and good luck finding a replacement. I haven't had a problem with leaks. Oh yeah, it brews a mighty smooth cup of coffee too.

THE worst coffee machine,
By
This review is from: Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Cone Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
We bought the red version in Aug 2005 to complement my very white kitchen. I was very disappointed from the start. First off, it took forever to brew a pot of coffee. While brewing, coffee would leak under the pot itself...not sure how. The biggest problem we had though....the sides of the coffee machine started to melt after one year of use! THe red paint was black, like it was burnt and was peeling off, the actual sides of the coffee machine looked as if they coming off.
We threw this away and bought a new machine...needless to say NOT a Mr. Coffee.... |
