The coffeemaker this replaced was very similar if not the same model. The last coffeemaker lasted several years without having any trouble. When the glass carafe finally broke, I discovered it was only about $10 more to get a brand new coffeemaker instead of a replacement carafe. The two features that I like the most about this unit is the fact that you can easily program it the night before to wake up to hot brewed coffee and the automatic shutoff after two hours. For the price and features, it is hard to go wrong.

This coffee maker is a riot! I was looking for a basic maker with a timer, and I figured Mr Coffee was a time-honored brand. This one had a sneak-a-cup feature, and that was cool. I paid a decent price; it doesn't cost much. But this thing is sort of a mess. First, this has one of those carafes that you can't pour out of without the coffee curling around the lip and making a puddle. Please! How long have we been making coffee makers? Next, the sneak-a-cup feature does work... you can sneak a cup while coffee is making. True, but you'll get water and/or liquid all over the hot pad every time you get a cup, whether coffee is making or not. The sneak-a-cup probe gathers coffee or condensate in it, and it all comes out as soon as you pull the carafe. You can jiggle the carafe around before you pull it out, as a work-around for that. Plus, there is a platform that surrounds the probe, and it gathers lots of condensate, too. So there's lots of liquid hanging around ready to run down when the maker is disturbed, like when you get a cup of coffee. Plus, the big expansive lid on the thing gathers condensate, too, so every now and then this thing just erupts with noise and steam, as if a rainstorm has broken out in there. Oh, I should point out that when that big expansive lid is open, you'll need some headroom, about 21 inches. This thing has to be pulled out from under cabinet overhangs for loading, especially since the water has to be poured into the very back of the unit. I use mine on the cooktop, because it's the only place where I can open the lid up all the way.
For me this is just a kind of funny and mildly irritating coffee maker that makes lots of noise, takes lots of room, and splatters water and coffee all over the place. But hey, it's the cheap one.

Worst coffee maker ever! Don't buy this!,

This has to be the worst coffee maker ever manufactured. I have had the four-cup version for years, and have never had any problems with it, but this one is just terrible. It is messy, the pause and brew feature only works part of the time, and we end up with coffee grounds in our brewed coffee more often than not. I'm too disgusted to write a big, long review at this time, but if you just go to the reviews of other dissatisfied customers, they have pretty much covered everything that I could possibly say about this piece of junk. Don't buy it! It hasn't been quite thirty days since we received it, but we didn't keep the original packaging, and I don't know if it is returnable at this point, or not. I'm only glad that we only paid about $25.00 for it. We should have paid more attention to the other bad reviews and passed on this one.

Started Leaking from bottom after six months, or so,
This review is from: Mr. Coffee SKX23 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
How does a company design a coffee maker that leaks from the bottom?
That would have been inconceivable to me before I bought this model I'll go with another brand as a replacement. By the way, Sunbeam is involved in the manufacture of this model.

Consider these life spans:
1st Mr. Coffee - 11 months 2nd Mr. Coffee - 3 months 3rd Mr. Coffee - 3 weeks Customer Service keeps replacing them so I guess I'll stick with it.

It brews the coffee and keeps it warm. The controls are simple, and the auto-brew is easy to program. The LED clock is nice and bright and easy to read. It's easy to see the water level. The drip-stop doesn't leak when the carafe is removed on mine, and the carafe pours without spilling. It's cheap. Not much to complain about. Yes, the lid is big and needs clearance to open, but it's hard to pour water into any coffee maker without sliding it out from under the cabinets anyway. Water does condense on the lid and run down into the reservoir when you open it, but it's not like that's a big problem. Not sure about the Mr. Coffee replaceable water filter disc - I don't have very hard water, and the discs seem to be a bit hard to find and expensive - but it's optional to use it, so not a negative.

I bought this unit from Lowe's before I could look it up on the web. How could I go wrong? Mr. Coffee is an American icon! What a mistake. It is awkward to use, doesn't keep the coffee as hot as I would like and after 3 months, quit. Just went dead. Wouldn't turn on, it was dead. Of course I didn't have the receipt and in all honesty didn't want another one of this model anyway. I went back to the "percolator" type coffee pot.

Not the best choice,

I have used Mr. Coffee before, and the products are usually good quality. The carafe style in this model is a real problem. You cannot pour a cup of coffee without spilling it everywhere! What a mess! With a different carafe, this model would be fine. I like the programmable features and the way it shuts off automatically for safety, but pouring remains a problem.

When I first bought this it brewed a pretty decent cup of coffee. Nice looking, easy to program. Good deal. There were a couple of things I didn't like though. One,the carafe drips when you pour it. Mess. Hate that. The other was the pause and serve....it also drips when you pull the carafe out. Annoying but the coffee was good so I put up with it. Now, after a few months I have noticed the coffee is lukewarm when it brews...then is heated by the heating plate. FAIL!!! Time to get a new coffeemaker!

Don't like it,

I went from a Krups machine that I used for over 5 years down to this Mr. coffee model. It really doesn't make a good cup of coffee. The warmer plate doesn't keep the coffee hot at all. I'm not happy with this one and I have now splurged and got myself another new Krups machine.
