This specific model does NOT have the 2 hour auto shut-off. You must get the programmable model. Returned it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Marvelous Coffee Maker, December 28, 2009
By

I have used my old coffee maker for over ten years. It still works and makes great coffee, but the handle on the carafe somehow slipped to the side. With the handle out of place, it is difficult to pour coffee into a cup, but I still like my coffee maker. Of course I could have replaced the carafe, but My son decided I needed a new Mr Coffee and wished to get me one as a present.

So what to get? Over the years the choices have really expanded. I don't like programmable models. The coffee grounds that sit overnight become stale while waiting for the alarm to start brewing. I like my coffee fresh.

My son found this Mr. Coffee 12 Cup Switch model which exceeds all my requirements. I started using this coffee maker and it is really good. It is easy to keep clean, which is important for making great coffee. It has a "Pause and Serve" that allows a person to take a first cup, without any spillage, while it is still brewing. It also comes with a one year warranty (but if it is anything like my last one it will last many years).

I highly recommend this Mr. Coffee.

4.0 out of 5 stars No Automatic Shut-Off Feature, January 26, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mr. Coffee SK12 12-Cup Switch Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
This is an excellent basic coffeemaker. We've had one of the programmable units for years and love it. However, the written description of the product clearly states "2-hour auto shut-off keeps your coffee hot for two hours and then automatically shuts itself off." THERE IS NO SUCH AUTOMATIC SHUT-OFF on this model. You must buy the more expensive, programmable model to get the auto shut-off feature. It's a small complaint but the automatic shut-off was the reason that we bought this unit for use in a workplace where people don't always remember to turn the coffeemaker off at night. Now we have to go through the exercise of returning the product and re-ordering one that DOES have the automatic shut-off.
Please update your product description.

5.0 out of 5 stars Mr. Coffee 12 cup Machine, December 19, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mr. Coffee SK12 12-Cup Switch Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
I have owned Mr. Coffee, Coffee makers since 1973. It is the only brand I will purchase. because of it's consistant reliability. Altho I did purchase another brand "Once" only because the store was out of these when I needed one. To be fair. I will not name the other brand. But I was not impressed.
Mr. Coffee. I find? lasts a lot longer in a 7 day a week scenario. Using the pot from morning to late afternoon.. With out breaking down or burning out. The Manufacturer states that the machine should be cleaned with white Vinegar . However? I have not done this to any of my machines ever. And They always and consistantly. Last over two years. The one I purchased before this one for instance? Lasted from 2007 to 2010. before it gave up the Ghost and finally died.
I find that cleaning the Coffee maker with white Vinegar. Shortens the pots life span. So I do not do this any more.
I also purchased the Gold basket to put the coffee in as I grew tired of the messy paper filters alone.
For the price? and convience? I consider mr. Coffee to be an ecellent value. And have felt this way now since my first purchase of this coffee maker in 1973. A hint....When ever I purchase any electyrical aplliance? I always on the bottom of the appliance use a Sharpie Pen and write down the date purchased. This also helps me to know exactly how long an item lasts with out any guess work. This is my own quirk? But you may find it a good practice as well for your own knowledge.
Thank You

5.0 out of 5 stars I Probably Don't Have Sophisticated Taste Buds, February 12, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mr. Coffee SK12 12-Cup Switch Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
My Mr. Coffee just like this one died after four or five years. I spent much more time than I should have reading reviews and pondering my choices. I knew I didn't want one of the highly rated three hundred dollar models, but did consider a sixty-five dollar unit until I read negative reviews of it. Finally, I decided to go with the devil I knew, and have no regrets. I don't have any problem with filling the pot in the morning and doing other things in the few minutes it takes to brew, so I don't need a timer. I usually get up at about the same time each day but if I don't I don't want (a)to have to plan the night before for when my coffee should be made or (b)have coffee sitting around waiting for me. Also, while I still prefer coffee made in a Chemex to any other coffee (except for expresso), it's just more trouble than it's worth. I really do think that what you put in the pot determines what comes out for your cup. Good coffee in, good coffee out. Bad coffee in, bad coffee out. A six hundred dollar coffee maker won't improve the taste of cheap coffee grounds and good coffee grounds will make good coffee in this pot.

5.0 out of 5 stars I Love My New Coffee Pot:), March 3, 2011
This review is from: Mr. Coffee SK12 12-Cup Switch Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
I just got my New coffee pot and IT WORKS GREAT!!!!! The coffee is piping hot, it brews quickly and the coffee Tastes AMAZING!
FYI: Now, when you buy a new coffee maker YOU SHOULD always Cure/ Clean it first thing:) fill coffee pot with half water half vinegar mixture. Run it through the maker like you are making a pot a coffee. Once it runs through, rinse in the same way but only this time use water only. MAKE SURE A FILTER IS IN PLACE DURING THE FULL PROCESS IN ORDER TO CATCH ANY DEBRIS. This Will allow your first pot of coffee to be a great pot of coffee:) I hope this helps you:) Whenever your maker begins to start making FUNKY tasting coffee use this same Cleaning method to have it tasting great again. I would do this every 2 to 3 months. Smiles to you:)

My coffee maker is in the shop so needed a coffee maker in the interim. Mine has a built in grinder, so had to make due with pre ground coffee. But it works great, coffee tastes great and its cheap. No automatic shut-off so you need to remember to turn it off. I like that there is a water measure on the side so you dont have to use the carafe for measuring the water. All in all .. I'm happy with my purchase.

Another great purchase from Amazon. I've used the coffeemaker often since I purchased it 2 + months ago. Great price for a nice simple coffeemaker. The taste of the coffee is wonderful. The product works well and you can't beat what you get for the amount you paid.

Shame on Amazon. This coffee maker does not have auto off as claimed by Amazon in the product description/features. It's not worth the trouble for me to return it.

4.0 out of 5 stars No frills, what you expect, November 4, 2011
This review is from: Mr. Coffee SK12 12-Cup Switch Coffeemaker, White (Kitchen)
We purchased this coffee maker a few weeks ago after several years with a beloved Bunn. We wanted something intuitive because we have a lot of guests and we encourage the first person 'up' to make coffee. We also didn't like the necessity of keeping a coffee maker plugged in 24/7. Pros: the price!; the design is intuitive and easy to operate; no more 'vampire' using electricity unless we're using it (we unplug it after each use); no fancy filters necessary; it's obvious when it's on/off because the light is front and center; the drip-less feature is great because if you're impatient, you can pour a cup while it's still brewing. Cons: you must flip top up to pour in water (so if you keep it under a cabinet, you'll need to pull it towards the front of the counter); the coffee grounds splatter inside the reservoir when the hot water hits them; the coffee never seems hot enough; it takes a while to brew an entire pot; and it's obvious the white plastic is going to stain. Overall, we're happy with it, but honestly, when I want a really good cup of coffee, I'm going to use my old French press.
