2.0 out of 5 stars New features don't work properly
My husband and I purchased this black coffeemaker to replace a white 6 year-old Mr. Coffee 4 cup maker to match the appliances in our new condo. We were excited that the new model looked sleeker and there was a set delay feature- all for 20 dollars. Unfortunately the clock never worked. It gets about 7 minutes behind every day, I get around this by setting the clock...

If you need a smaller coffeemaker because of counter space or amount of coffee consumed by your household, this may be the best choice for you.

Good points:
-Brews a great tasting cup of coffee, quickly and at a hot temperature
-Attractive design looks great in the kitchen
-Great size to brew small amounts of coffee
-Easy to clean carafe and reservoir
-Great price

Not-so Good points (they aren't that bad):
-The basket retains a lot of moisture that drips onto the hot plate when you remove the carafe - lots of sizzling action as the water evaporates
-The carafe does leak if you pour too quickly -- it's a small opening between the pour lip and the lid
-It is supposed to make 4 cups of coffee BUT Mr. Coffee's definition of a cup is 5 oz. If you're a java junkie like me, this coffeemaker actually makes only two regular sized cups of coffee. You may want to have a larger coffeemaker available if you entertain.

Overall, the pros heavily outweigh the cons of this coffeemaker. You get a great coffeemaker for a great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute, quick, and clean, August 21, 2003
This review is from: Mr. Coffee 4-Cup Switch Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
I got this coffeemaker for my dorm room, and it works great. It doesn't hold much - Mr. Coffee's idea of a cup isn't my idea of a cup. I filled up my coffee cup and it took up like 2.5 cups of the carafe. It is quick and makes hot coffee or tea (replace filter with tea bags). the area where you pour the water in has a very large lid so you don't have to worry about trying to pour water into a tiny hole. Also, the area where the filter goes comes completely off for easy cleaning. The carafe has a small opening, so be careful pouring it, but it is easy to clean and the handle makes it easy to hold without burning your hand. It does sizzle a bit when you take the carafe out, but I've never had a coffeemaker that didn't do that. It's condensation from the steam and moisture that was retained. I don't think it can really be helped.

As for the reviewer who had issues with it making a mess - I think that was probably a defective product. I haven't had any messes with mine. The 4-cup filters were very easy for me to find - I just shopped at the local grocery store. But, if you can't find the 4 cup filters, the normal filters should do fine, they'll just be more scrunched up than normal.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good news for all you dribblers., August 5, 2004

I was suffering the same plight as some other other reviewers. My carafe dribbled badly when pouring, unless I did it painfully slow. I called Mr. Coffee customer service to ask about this problem and they told me there was small number of carafes that came with this particular brewer of which the glass lip was slightly deformed, thus causing the dribble when pouring. They sent me a new carafe free (free shipping too!). I could see, when comparing the two carafes, that there was indeed a slight shape difference. I tried the new carafe this morning and yes! No dribble, even when pouring into my mug quickly.
Hats off to Mr. Coffee and their customer service follow through.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good to the last drop..., August 17, 2003

I friend of mine owns an older Mr. Coffee 4-cup and we both swear by it. So when it came time for me to buy a machine, I went straight for this. It always makes a great cup o' joe, and this is coming from an ex-coffee-house employee. As with most coffee makers, 2-cups of their's equals one cup of ours, meaning a full pot is the perfect amount for 2 nice-sized cups.

The machine is easy to clean (I recommend using only distilled water in any coffee maker). It doesn't have a fancy thermostat on the warming plate, but I never let my coffee "cook". I pour it when it's done brewing and if I want another, I make another.

For what it is (a simple and effective brewing machine) and at that price, it's really a great buy.

I always read the reviews about a product prior to purchase. I was a bit reluctant to purchase this coffee maker because of some negative reviews about spillage. However, I went ahead and purchased it out of process of elimination and name recognition.

I'm glad I did. I have had no problems at all. It has a new admirable design and makes a good pot of coffee. I was expecting some drips when I pour, but it pours perfectly. I don't know what others were complaining about. Furthermore, it was easy to find 4-cup filters at the local grocery store.

I highly recommend this coffee maker.

5.0 out of 5 stars great little coffee maker, December 11, 2002

I have had this coffee maker for a few months now and I love it. To add water you slide off the holder, fill and slide back on. Easy, easy, easy. No more water on the counter from over pouring the water from the pot. It also is very attractive and doesn't take alot of room on the counter. I bought one for my father who like me is the only coffee drinker in the house. It has worked flawlessly from the first pot.

This coffeemaker works great and is so cute. The coffee I brewed from it tastes hot and real good. I love the removable reservoir. The coffeemaker is so small, it hardly takes any space on the counter. I had no trouble with spills. I sometimes brew two pots of coffee, both hot and fresh.

4.0 out of 5 stars handy dandy little spacesaver, February 19, 2004

I like this little coffeemaker so much I bought two, one for home, the other one for my camper.

The removeable water resevoir is a handy little gimmick, but where I have my coffeemaker, I don't have the room to lift it out and put it back without dumping part of the water, so I fill it with a cup, but if your maker is out in the open, it is a convenient way to fill it.

The only reason I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 is because sometimes when you take the pot out before it is done brewing, the automatic pause doesn't always pause and coffee keeps dribbling onto the heating element. The solution I found to that is that you have to put the basket with the grounds in first, make sure it is tightly seated, THEN put the carafe on the heating element. When it is done that way, the auto pause works pretty well.

I also like the shape of the carafe, and the feel of the handle. For the money, I think it is a pretty good little coffee brewer for one person, it is perfect for my morning coffee jones. And it's just so CUTE!!! hey, cute counts...

I can use full size filters and put as much of my starbucks brew as I want.

No overflow and just great taste. Mr. Coffee has an easy to use and good looking unit here.

The removeable water resivior is a FANTASTIC feature.

5.0 out of 5 stars No more moldy reservoirs!, February 22, 2004
This review is from: Mr. Coffee 4-Cup Switch Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
Bought this coffee maker 2 or 3 weeks ago. It took a few attempts to get the coffee measure just right, but afterwards it made a very good cup of coffee. All coffee makers should have removeable reservoirs! How many times I have pitched a pot that I could not get clean in the crevices and it was moldy on the inside.

Someone mentioned the carafe lip spills coffee. It has a nice deep lip and if you don't turn the carafe up to quickly it pours without spilling.

It does require a good tug to lift the reservoir off and it must be reseated properly or the coffee will not brew properly, but that only takes a moment to learn to do it right.

The one disadvantage I find is not having a removeable lid on the carafe or the reservoir since it is dishwasher safe. This prevents seating them properly in the dishwasher rack.

All told I think it is well worth the price. A slightly cheaper model is available without the removeable reservoir, but the extra $5.00 is worth it to me to have a clean reservoir.
