5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for a small apartment
I needed a small coffee maker that had automatic shut-off. I thought it would be easy to find, but actually had some trouble finding one. This is a nice design, blends well with my other appliances, and, most importantly, shuts off after an hour.

2.0 out of 5 stars Electrical shorts
We bought this 5-cup coffeemaker in September 2009 because we were unable to find a 4-cup replacement carafe at Wal-Mart and ordering one on-line cost as much as a new 4 or 5-cup maker. The new 5-cup coffeemaker worked well until January 2010 when we started experiencing what we assumed were power interruptions because the time and timer had to be reset 2 or 3 or more...

We bought this 5-cup coffeemaker in September 2009 because we were unable to find a 4-cup replacement carafe at Wal-Mart and ordering one on-line cost as much as a new 4 or 5-cup maker. The new 5-cup coffeemaker worked well until January 2010 when we started experiencing what we assumed were power interruptions because the time and timer had to be reset 2 or 3 or more times a day. A "short" time later (pun intended), the display itself became fainter AND the coffeemaker would in fact lose power(shut off), sometimes right in the middle of making a new batch.
We are not heavy coffee drinkers, making only 1 batch per day. We assume the problems occurred because the buttons for the clock and timer are located just below where the carafe sits where either water or coffee is bound to seep into the button contacts, causing these problems.
One more thing. The last Mr. Coffee we owned didn't have the metal band around the bottom of the carafe. This new one does and, when you fill the carafe with water, some gets "trapped" in the steel band until you go to pour it in the coffeemaker reservoir and then it dribbles out on the counter.

1.0 out of 5 stars Just like they said..., November 11, 2010

I buy a lot of things from Amazon.com and I always read the reviews. I focus mostly on the 5's and the 1's, and the relative numbers of them.

Many times I 'write off' the 1s as folks who got a lemon or don't really know what they're buying or are just habitual complainers. But this time, I should've listened.

I bought this little coffee maker, and loved it - for about 2 weeks. And then it simply stopped working.

The lights come on (it's still a functional clock I guess) but it is no longer a coffee maker.

Look for something else - don't do what I did and assume that I'd get luckier than all the others who complained about this one...

1.0 out of 5 stars Short Lifespan, May 19, 2010
This review is from: Mr. Coffee CGX7 5-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
I've owned two of these (I'm a slow learner). The first one's clock stopped keeping accurate time within the first week; it lost 5 minutes every hour. Since I rely on the delay brew for morning coffee, I returned it for a replacement. The second one worked nicely for a little less than a year, then died.

1.0 out of 5 stars DO NOT BUY, July 8, 2010
This review is from: Mr. Coffee CGX7 5-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
I have had 3 of these coffee makers in the past four years. All of them have quit working and Mr. Coffee will not do anything about it. I always liked the size and functionality but all three have quit like others have written in these reviews. So DO NOT BUY and Amazon stop selling them.

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor workmanship, April 12, 2010

This coffee maker started out well. The scheduler option is wonderful. I work third shift and to be able to wake up to a fresh pot of coffee at 3am is a minor miracle. The only downside is that the pause option is useless. The spring that's supposed to hold back the drip while you pour a cup is very flimsy. If you don't wait until the full pot has finished brewing, the coffee will dribble down onto the hot plate and all over the counter.

Then, one morning last week I woke only to find the clock showed 12:00 (as if there had been a power outage) and no coffee in the carafe. Today, when I turned it on, the power light lit up but it would not brew. It finally did brew after unplugging and plugging it back in, but now the clock display is completely dead. We've had the machine less than a year.

Meanwhile, our 14-year old 4-cup Mr Coffee is still working perfectly (though unfortunately without a timer option which means it's relegated to tea purposes these days). You can even pour a cup in the middle of brewing, and it won't drip a bit. Proof that Mr Coffee *used to* make great products.

1.0 out of 5 stars Stopped Working After 1 Month, November 27, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Mr. Coffee CGX7 5-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
After a little over one month of use, the water stopped pumping into the basket and coffee pot. Since Amazon only allows one to return items within a 30 day window, I am not able to return this defective coffee pot. If you buy this coffee maker, buy it at a store where you can return items which stop working.

1.0 out of 5 stars Short lifespan, April 14, 2010

Purchased this unit because it is exactly the right size for us plus automatic shut off. After seven brewing cycles it quit working, won't turn on when push the button, just makes a clicking sound from somewhere inside.

It is likely this will be our last Mr Coffee purchase as they seem to have shorter and shorter lifespans.

I am updating this review after about a year of owning this coffee pot. I originally gave the pot a five star rating because it was right sized and did everything I wanted it to do. However, after owning it for just over a year the display lights started dimming. My pot still makes coffee but now I can't read the display at all. I do unplug the pot when I am not using it, so that may have delayed the onset of it's failure. Based on my experience with this coffee pot I have to scale my rating back to two stars and suggest that customers stay away from this unit.
