Mr. Coffee's CJX21-CP 12 cup programmable coffee maker, If it dosen't work, bang it.,
By
This review is from: Mr. Coffee CJX21CP 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
My wife bought a Mr. Coffee 12-Cup Programmable Coffee Maker with Water Filtration, and after a couple of weeks this model stopped brewing coffee. I'm guessing there must be some kind of check valve that was sticking because, you know, as a last resort hit it. Banging it got it working again. Every 5 or 6 brews it doesn't work, bang it.
It is probably going back to Costco. I'm guessing this is a known problem?

Short Service -- Throwaway Item,
This review is from: Mr. Coffee CJX21CP 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
This unit was obviously perfectly engineered -- it lasted exactly sixteen days past the expiration of the one-year warranty. When it failed to heat up, I knew that I had been had by 'ol Mr. Coffee for a second time... this machine's predecessor had expired at 14 months. I had hoped that the earlier failure was just a fluke, so I took a chance and bought another one. Silly mistake. There will not be a third. Out of morbid curiosity, I took it apart and performed an autopsy. I had initially hoped the problem was one of the two cheap thermal fuses inside, but it turned out that the heating element had burned out, so the whole thing went into the trash. It would appear that the Sunbeam folks who make these lovely things have cracked the code on building them to last precisely long enough to squeak past the warranty....similar to a Kleenex. They will not get another penny of my hard earned money.

I'm reading all of these reviews and it makes me chuckle. I bought my first one 3 - 4 years ago and it served us well for that time. 2 - 3 pots per day, it had a lot of use. I do miss the back light, but I never really used it to program the night before anyway.
Someone said the decanter drips.....well lift the lid a bit and it won't. Someone said theirs stopped brewing - defective?? within warranty, return it / exchange it. Had it for a while?? Clean it - that is why there is a cleaning function. I purchased from the Marketplace for my most recent unit - got a great deal and it brews like a charm - better than Starbucks!! -- I love the choice of brew - we always go for the stronger using fresh ground French Roast or Sumatra. -- Love it Love IT!!

nice so far,
This review is from: Mr. Coffee CJX21CP 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
We bought this at Costco to replace yet another Chinese POS that failed us in 1.5 years. This one? Made in China too. All the Chinese build quality you'd expect but it brews nicely so far (2 days). No problems with the carafe either. For $30 or $40 we figure this one is also a temp but brews fine for now. Someday we'll spend the money for a quality machine.

nice coffee maker - reusable filters are not for me,

This review is from: Mr. Coffee CJX21CP 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
I like this coffee maker. It is attractive, looks nice and makes a good strong pot of coffee.
I wish the clock was back lit. I like that it beeps when it is finished brewing. I have not encountered any electronics problems, but I don't do any scheduling as I like to grind my coffee fresh right before I make it. Our carafe pours beautifully, might be the smoothest most directional pour of any I have ever had. It slips in and out of the machine kind of clunky, but once you get used to it you adjust to the movement required. We quit using the reusable charcoal filter and reusable basket after the first few uses as they require more work than we care to put into making a pot of coffee. I also don't like washing coffee grounds into my plumbing and reusables require rinsing the left over grounds off. We actually like the taste of the coffee better with the paper filters and without the charcoal water filtration. At about 1/3 cent a day the filter cost is a non-issue My last coffee maker was a hamilton beach and I hated it in the beginning - but we got used to it and it lasted 11 years... I'll be happy if this one lasts half as long.

Impossible to pour without spilling.,

The coffeemaker itself works fine, but the carafe is the worst I've ever used anywhere. It is almost impossible to pour from the carafe without having the coffee or water dribble down the side. It's not just my own clumsiness. This is our office coffeemaker, and it happens to everyone. We are constantly cleaning up spills around the coffee maker. It is plainly a defective design. I recommend that you buy a different brand.

Mr. Coffee Electronics Don't Work,
By
This review is from: Mr. Coffee CJX21CP 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
I love everything about this Coffee Maker except the timer and electronic settings fail from time to time. For example you will try and make a pot of coffee and it beeps at you indicating the coffee is ready but in actuality the coffee has yet to brew. Unplugging it doesn't work but putting it on the timer seems to trick it. Sending it back today. The other thing that is annoying is the clock isn't lit so it's hard to see the time...

This is the second one I have bought. I bought my son one a year ago. It's still working great and he's had no problems with it. The second one went to my daughter and she loves it. Both have said that it makes great coffee and that it doesn't take long to make a pot.

Do not waste your money on this!,
This review is from: Mr. Coffee CJX21CP 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
So disappointed by this appliance. It was okay for a week or so, although the 'pause and pour' didn't work very well, it continued to drip onto the heating plate when the carafe was removed. But the biggest problem is that after a few weeks the coffee smelled like burned plastic. I threw so much coffee away and wasted my time trying to clean the brewer to take the smell away, but no luck. I finally just threw it away. Such a waste of time and money.

Mr Coffee Makes GREAT Tea!,

This review is from: Mr. Coffee CJX21CP 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black (Kitchen)
Wow, I'm glad I didn't read some of these reviews before buying this product. I don't drink coffee but needed a brewer for my black tea in the morning. This nylon basket is perfect! (I love the water filter too) The timer works wonderful. I get my cup(s) right on time at 5am. The carafe does drip but I learned to hold the plastic lid up just - a bit and it doesn't drip. The light for the clock is a bit dim. I wish it lit up a bit more but hey my black tea is ready when I wake up so I'm happy. I brew a full carafe every morning on the strong cycle. I haven't used the other two so can't comment on that. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because of the clock light and wish the water filters were a little less expensive.
