5.0 out of 5 stars Great coffee maker.
This coffee maker is great. I love the beep when it's done brewing and it brews faster than any coffee maker I've owned. The automatic shut off after two hours is great also. I'm always forgetting to turn off the coffee maker. My only complaint is the water filter. I was excited about the idea of using tap water to make coffee for once. 1.0 out of 5 stars Worst Coffee Maker I Have Ever Owned, March 7, 2010
This review is from: Mr. Coffee JWX27KV 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
I received this as a gift from my family so I said goodbye to my old Mr. Coffee and set this one up in our kitchen. It is much larger than my previous 12 cup but I was able to clear enough space to make it work. Now, let me list the problems:
- Old Mr. Coffee had a bright red LED clock that I could see across the room. This model has an unlit LCD that I can barely see even when I'm standing next to it.
- There is no dam between the basket area and the main reservoir which means that coffee splash and stray grounds can wash right into the reservoir, contaminating everything.
- Old Mr. Coffee had a multi-hole water outlet that would shower the grounds in the coffee basket. This model has a single outlet jet that directs the water into one small area near the center of the basket effectively leaving some of grounds dry. The first pot I made was so weak I have to spit it out!. Now, in addition to grinding my beans a bit finer, I must leave the pot out of the unit for the first 3 minutes so the basket doesn't drain. This strategy bathes all the grounds in water and makes my coffee palatable. But this manual step means I can never set the coffee maker on automatic which negates the whole purpose of the clock/timer.
The only reason I keep it is because it was a gift, but my goal here is to save someone else from wasting money on this sub-standard brewer.

We have city water and it leaves a horrible oily looking scum on our coffee. I thought maybe the filter would take whatever it is doing this out of the water. It didn't. So I'm still buying water to make coffee. I blame this more on our city water than the coffee maker though. The store I bought mine at has it regularly priced at 49.99 but I got it on special %30 off. I would definitely rec. this coffee maker.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not too impressed, January 6, 2010

It seemed to work fine at first and I like many of the features others have noted. But now it seems the coffee is very, very weak; it's like drinking light brown water.

And the "no-drip" feature has never worked. Every time you pull out the pot, three or four large drops fall onto the heating element which you then have to immediately sponge up or they will fry onto the element. Not too convenient.

Good coffeemaker while it worked. This morning it stopped making coffee all
of a sudden - less than 3 months after we bought it.
Would not recommend.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good Hot Coffee, November 27, 2009
This review is from: Mr. Coffee JWX27KV 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker (Kitchen)
This is a good coffee maker that makes a great cup of coffee.

We have been looking for a replacement coffee maker for some time and looked at several different coffee makers friends have. After doing some taste tests with the grind of coffee we drink, we came across the Mr. Coffee JWX27 and decided to try it. I am glad we did.

This programmable 12-cup coffee maker features pause-and serve, brew strength selector, water filter, 2-hour auto shut-off, among other features.

Features I like:
- Brew temperature is hot
- End of brew cycle beep
- Pour spout does not dribble when pouring water - no more spills
- Separate lid for water
- Black and stainless matches our kitchen appliances

Features I don't like:
- You have to swing the hot water drip spout out of the way to remove the coffee filter basket
- Coffee filter basket has two small loops - prefer a flip basket handle

Costco carries this coffee maker that is rounded instead of the boxed corners (new model perhaps).

It is retail priced for $39, but found ours at K-mart for $29.

Don't let the price fool you - This is our favorite coffee maker we've owned so far. If you are looking for a coffee maker, give this one a try.

1.0 out of 5 stars Takes too long to brew, June 4, 2011

We started with our coffee maker as a gift a couple years ago. After awhile it wouldn't work well, the warmer plate got real hot and it took too long. We called Mr. Coffee and they let us have a new one, but the rep. told us that it was discontinued (probably other complaints and malfunctions). Anyway, the new one was OK for about 3 months then it started taking too long to make (over 20 min.) and the "coffee's done" beeper would go off after only 2 minutes (barely started brewing)
