Mr. Coffee LWXSS33 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker with Touch-Screen Technology

I was first attracted to this unit because it has a touch-screen and such a sleek look. I have come to be VERY happy with mine. I looked in several places locally and online to find a better price and couldn't get better than sixty at a big name chain WM. I was recently forced to buy a new coffee maker as my carafe broke on my Braun unit and I wasn't able to replace it. (FWIW, that unit is 11 yrs old and won't quit. Despite it overflowing and water getting in the electronic parts countless times, it always dried out!)

Pros:
(+) very slick, touch screen is way cool, let's face it
(+) pours very well; no drips
(+) "strong" feature really does adjust strength for you; no need to change scoop amt
(+) plastic around the top of decanter prevents chips/cracks (where most breaks start)
(+) visual timer unit (15 minute increments)
(+) cord storage at back so you can push unit flush to wall
(+) clean function automatically determines when unit needs cleaning

Cons:
(-) a big con for me is that the "Strong" indicator goes away once the coffee has fully brewed and is ready. How are others supposed to know what kind of coffee you made that day? Because with this coffee maker, Strong vs. Regular (not strong) makes a VERY noticeable difference. I don't know how, but it really does.
(-) another big con is the obnoxious 5-beep ready indicator. Could it be any louder? Maybe it's supposed to be like an alarm clock--to wake you from a peaceful slumber. Geesh.
(-) the stainless steel down the front/sides gets slightly streaky when wiping with a sponge. It really needs a stainless steel cleaner to get it like-new again. (I'm not going to buy a bottle of this just for my coffee maker. It looks good enough from arms length away.)
(-) water gauge is down in the water well. I **MUCH** preferred my Braun unit that had a ball and bobber that you could visualize the water height from the outside. I just don't feel like I can get an accurate read looking DOWN at the water level.
(-) I feel this water filter system is cheap. I know many units use this disc you put over the grinds as the water drips, but I much prefer the type of charcoal filter with actual charcoal pebbles in it that you put down in the water well and it soaks in the water.
(-) it's impossible to get the last couple of drops out of the decanter when pouring; they get stuck in the plastic pour lid (mildly annoying)
(-) flat basket design requires slightly more grounds when brewing small pots (i.e. not as efficient as a cone-shaped)


As to the poster who gave it a low review and mentioned it wasn't stable on only two rubber feet... I just checked mine and mine is totally and completely stable. Given that he mentioned he has black, tile countertops, I'm not surprised it isn't stable. Duh.

I just got this unit the other day and have made a total of two pots of coffee, so far. I know it is early, but this is a terrific machine. Very easy to fill: the reservior has a stepped gauge that is easy to read from above which is handy since I fill it with the sink sprayer directly instead of from the caraff. It used normal filters instead of those conical ones. The caraff is actually 12 cups. The touch screen is very sensitive and it is a genuine touch screen, not a plastic covered button type keyboard. Very easy to program and operate. Love the added water filter feature and it is NOT a cartridge type that costs you almost as much as the coffee maker itself. Probably won't used it once it needs replacing, we will see. Terrific unit!!

This is my first "real" coffee maker. The one I had previous to this purchase was about 25 years old (also a Mr. Coffee), and it didn't have automatic anything. It was just as basic as it gets. So, for me, I am just thrilled to have this new one that is programmable so that I can wake up to the wonderful aroma of coffee each morning! When coffee is ready, the machine will beep three times. Coffee maker keeps coffee hot for 2 hours, and then beeps three times again to let you know it's shutting off.
This model has a sensitive touch key pad, it is easily programmable, easy to clean, and hasn't turned out a bad pot of coffee yet. I've owned it for two months now, and I am still as delighted with it as I was on day one.
The enclosed operation booklet won't take you three days to read. Everything is concise and clearly explained.
This Mr. Coffee looks smart on my counter top, but takes up a little more room than some do. I can live with that. Water resevoir can be poured into from either side of the filter basket. The left side has "stair-step" numbers inside so that you can pour directly from faucet or sprayer instead of pouring from coffee pot. Very convenient if you locate your machine on the right side of your sink.
The water filter that fits onto the filter basket serves, not only to filter water, but also aids in keeping the paper coffee filters from collapsing. Something I had a problem with regularly in my previous machine. It could be that the filters would not collapse anyway in this machine, but I found that it was a nice bit of insurance, if you will, since I had experienced the collapsed filters so often in my old machine.
I would highly recommend this machine to anyone who is in the market for a great coffee maker that has both good looks and is a pleasure to use.

Suddenly this machine has sprung a leak! It is losing a LOT of water from underneath the machine each time I try to make coffee now. Can't seem to figure out how this is happening. Wondering if anyone else is having the same trouble.

My wife primarily uses this unit to brew loose tea by the pot. Brew strength setting made a big difference in taste. Touch screen is very modern looking, while keeping the controls very simple. Overall a nice unit at a reasonable price. Has all the features we want and simple controls.

This Coffee Maker Does the one thing it should well. Make a Good cup of Coffee. It also looks very nice sitting on the counter. I really don't use the programming. I just like to turn it on and brew a pot now. The coffee is not quite as hot as I would like it. I find after it sits on the warmer for a bit it gets better.
My main complaint about this coffee maker and the reason I am giving it 3 stars, is this. Every time I pull the pot out to pour a cup of coffee, it drips on the burner the whole time. Sometimes alot of it, I am not sure if the seal is bad or what. I started looking at it closer and I think it is just made cheaply. The spring that is supposed to seal the hole when you pull out the pot is very weak. Maybe just me but I find the dripping coffee issue very annoying so just be aware of this. I have had other Mr. Coffee Makers that you could pull out half way in the cycle and not one drip.

After reading a ton of reviews, returning one coffee maker and doing an exhaustive Consumer Report search, (the latter of which is overrated) we went with this Mr. Coffee LWXSS33. Let me just say from the start, coffee snobs who shy away from Mr. Coffee expecting higher end brands to produce better results, are making a big mistake in overlooking this gem. Though we felt tempted to buy the Bunn for it's fast brew, I couldn't bring myself to place something that ugly on the countertop. Since we're bean grinders, we hoped to find another grind and brew, but we were growing weary with cleaning the grounds from the grind basket. Besides it's just messier. When we purchased this Mr. Coffee, I admit it was the touchscreen that sold us. We're kind of tecknerdy like that. But, this coffee maker is a dream! It has no buttons, comes with a no-fuss water filter, pause and serve, special cleaning cycle, programmable up to 24 hours before brewing, beeps when done, and beeps at 2hour auto shut-off. The lids on the top of the coffee maker are very unique. Not a feature that would necessarily sell this maker, but something you'll appreciate.

I don't mind the two strips of stainless steel on either side of the pot, but I would not have purchased it if it had been totally stainless. I agree that stainless steel is not so stainless. The water filter is a little wimpy, but it doesn't pose a hassle to put in or remove, and it seems to filter the water just fine. I love the strong and regular brew settings. The timer bar that indicates how long the pot has been made is a clever feature also. I love love love how the coffee smoothly pours from the carafe - w/o dribbling, which is a huge deal to me. Though a tablespoon or so of coffee has trouble emptying over the interior plastic lip, it's not an issue for me. The gauge on the inside of the coffee maker reservoir has a very clear indicator where the 4-6-8-10-12 cup limits are, which looks like a little white stair well and the numbers on each step are black. If the reservoir is overfilled, the excess water will pour out the back of the coffeemaker - another good feature because sometimes people forget they have already filled with water. Totally one of the best deals we've ever found. If you're over-selective about your coffee, and you need a replacement maker, this pot is hands-down a freaking awesome piece of technology. And the LED screen is just way too cool with it's silverblue. For $60 SIXTY!! bucks, it's a great bargain that no other upper end model can touch for the price.

I am currently awaiting my third "replacement" LWXSS33 coffee maker. The first one I bought leaked steam so badly that the chrome on the decorative "hood" above the decanter literally peeled off. The touch-screen buttons on the first replacement they sent me failed to work on the second day of ownership. In fact, the machine would literally turn itself on for no reason, and it would shut itself off in mid-brew. It is completely unusable. I'm hoping the third one they send will do the trick (fingers crossed) but I have noticed that Mr. Coffee has cut corners in every possible way they can on this unit. From the tiny power cord to the flimsy ill-fitting plastic lid, if this last one doesn't perform, I'll ask for my money back and I'll buy the more expensive Cuisinart model.

this thing only worked for about 2 months then started trying to clean itself everytime you turned it on. now at just over a year old it has completely stopped coming on at all. we puchased it at wallyworld. i will not be buying another mr coffee product.

I bought this coffee maker about a year ago, after I gave my cusinart to a friend who needed a coffee maker.

At first the unit worked fine. As time went by, the coffee got weaker and finally last sunday it brewed a pot of water, then added coffee, and sprayed/ leaked onto the heating pad. While I used it, I enjoyed the touch pad and the lighted clock. After this maker started acting unreliable I went and bought a new cuisinart model I had previously.

Also, another frustration of the Mr. Coffee was the coffee would drip onto the hot plate, even after the brew was done. This was an issue off and on for the length of time I owned the unit.

As it is, it seems impossible to find this model online now. this leads me to believe it was discontinued, as it doesn't even exist on Mr. Coffee's site any longer.

As far as the chemical taste people report, something is wrong with the included filter disc, and soaking it for about 15 minutes fixes this problem. Replacement filter discs do not have this problem.

Bought this coffee maker a few months ago to give it plenty of "break in" time so I could make an accurate report in a review. I must say I have NOT been dissapointed in anyway. Of course its a always a pill to have to slide a coffee maker out from under a cabinet to put water in it but so be it... At any rate here are the pros & cons:

PROS:
Great touch screen
Two settings for coffee type: Strong or Regular Strength
Has a cup measurer when you put water in inside left portion of water tank
You can load water from left or right side
Has a cleaning feature
Counts down how long your coffee has been on by the 1/2 hour
Turns itself off after 2 hours
VERY LOW STEAM issues, doesn't event make my cabinets sweat
No water spillage or leakage, unless I screw up pouring it in
Sleek and attractive design
Easy to program
Easy to set clock

CONS:
The additional disk type filter you can place in will dilute the coffee so don't bother with it.
Pull out from under cabinet but no big deal.
Alarm that goes off when done...I could do with out that.

I make coffee everyday sometimes twice a day and it brews quickly and accurately with very little water loss to steam. This coffee maker is very affordable and the cons aren't worth getting upset over as they are little things that are particular to me. After several months use I can say I would highly recommend it.
