MR COFFEE 12 CUP MRX36,
By Sherry Braasch (CHICAGO) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Mr. Coffee Heritage Series 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemakers (Kitchen)
This coffee maker is the best one I have ever had as long as I can remember. It is very easy to maintain and clean and it makes the best cup of coffee. The features I love are you can choose your brew strength: regular or strong, it has a start timer, an alarm to let you know the coffee is done brewing, a clean feature, and it automatically shuts off after two hours or four, you choose! It also has delayed start and a clock feature. It has an easy to read water holder and the carafe is easy to clean. You can use the heavy duty filter that comes with it or use the 8-12 cup paper filters. I use the paper filters and never had a problem with overflow or grounds getting in the coffee. I own the brown one and it looks great in my kitchen. Great coffee maker at a good price.

My wife is a coffee drinker and all she ask for is a nice couple of cups each morning. The maker works great. Nice looking, Brew options, heat adjustable warmer. Self cleaning with warning light. A lighted clock. Easy view water level. Easy change water filter (every month) and it's not needed to use the maker. And it even has a night light. I don't use the timer because the wife has different hours, but it has a timer brew start feature. And a one button operation. None of that step one, step two (you get the picture) Now. After many months the maker started to make a humming noise when sitting idle. I called Mr. coffee. Got a live person right away. She was nice and I could understand her (had to be a United States employee). The best part is she said just fax a proof of purchase. Isn't that always the rub after a period of time? But, I just went to "My Account" @ Amazon.com and there was my purchase record. I faxed a copy to Mr. Coffee and I received a new one quicker than when I bought the first one. The new one works just great. And the most important part I thought, was the better price through Amazon. Their record keeping of all my buys. And then there was Mr. Coffee customer service. I would rate that the best ever. The company should get some kind of reward. I will never buy any product other than Mr. Coffer. And I do all my shopping through Amazon. I have been able to find anything I want. Generaly a better price. Sometimes free shipping. And it is another US company. I have had questions after dealing with Amazon and you will be talking to a US employee within minutes. They have always fixed the problem. And it has generally been my fault to start with. And you get to read customer opinions on the product. That has really helped me. I have seen some great TV ads on an item and went to Amazon to buy it and 9 out of ten hated whatever it was. I know shopping through Amazon has saved me a lot of grief. That is why I take a minute and do these darn reviews. WOW. This reads like a book. Hope it helps someone.

All the beeps and whistles,
By Peggie "powwy" (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews

I received the Mr. Coffee Heritage Series coffeemaker as a gift and am very pleased with how it functions. Of course primarily it makes great coffee, but it also has the delay-brew feature so I can set it the night before, and it indicates how long the coffee has been brewed so I'll know if it's still palatable. It shuts off automatically after a designated amount of time (I can choose between two and to four hours). It has a beep when the coffee is ready and it also beeps when the machine shuts down after the designated time. There is a hotplate adjustment to keep the brewed coffee at the right temp for my second and third cups. The clock is a little hard to read, but I don't use it as a kitchen clock anyway. It is placed where it won't be affected by steam from the brewing cycle as some coffeemakers are with the clock placed directly above the grinds basket. The water receptacle is easy to access and I don't have a problem with overspill or awkward location. A nice added feature is a level place on the top with a removable rubberlike pad where I can set my coffee cup to warm it as the coffee is brewing, good idea since I used to run hot water to warm the cup on cold mornings. I had read countless reviews on many different brands including Cuisinart, but this particular model has the right configuration and features at a reasonable price. I would recommend this product

I began drinking coffee when I was 9 years old in the morning before I went to school each day, to be more alert in class and also because I enjoy the entire morning coffee drinking experience.Back in 1975 I remember our family had a white Mr. Coffee square basket-type coffee maker which was easy to clean, maintain and made very good tasting coffee. Recently when my Proctor Silex coffee maker finally died I decided to find the best Mr. Coffee model I could find that would bring back to me the quality of coffee I enjoyed before as a youth. I was not disappointed when I purchased the Mr. Coffee MRX35 Heritage Series Coffee Maker. This Mr. Coffee model is by far the best coffee maker I have owned. I have owned DeLonghi, Cuisinart, Proctor Silex and Krups models before. I feel for the money you spend for the Mr. Coffee MRX35 you get a really good set of features you would actually use (instead of "bells and whistles") and the Mr. Coffee MRX35 does make a fine pot of coffee to boot. The most surprising feature to me is that when it's time to clean or "decalcify" the MRX35 a red indicator light will come on to inform you. I used 20 ounces of ordinary white 5% distilled vinegar (per Mr. Coffee's MRX35 instruction manual) and indeed all the minerals accumulated from using ordinary tap water with the MRX35 were completely removed - I could see the mineral deposits caught in the paper filter after the MRX35's cleaning cycle was finished. As others have mentioned here the Mr. Coffee MRX35 is an attractive unit and is not too large in size. It fits nicely under my kitchen cabinets with 4" to spare. I like the MRX35's end of brewing beeping annunciator feature as well. You can disable the end of brewing beeping sound if desired. The Mr. Coffee MRX35 has a warming plate temperature adjustment feature as a sliding control which can be moved towards the left for less hot coffee or to the right for more hot. If you move the MRX35's sliding temperature control all the way to the right you will have very hot coffee. There is a selection for automatic shutoff of the Mr. Coffee's MRX35's warming plate at 2 hours or 4 hours. This is a nice feature and also eliminates the worry of whether you turned off the coffee maker or not. The Mr. Coffee MRX35 has a delayed-brew timer you can set for a particular time you'd like the MRX35 to make your coffee. If you are using tap water to make your coffee the Mr. Coffee Water Filter Discs do seem to improve the taste of the coffee. I purchase from Amazon.com the Mr. Coffee Water Filter Replacement Discs 6 pack so I feel the filter discs are worth the money. The Mr. Coffee MRX35 instruction manual says to expect each water filter disc to be effective for about 30 days of use. My only complaints are that the Mr. Coffee MRX35 has an "analog style" LCD clock on it (like the kind on a non-digital wrist watch) rather than the more common digital numeric LED or LCD digit display. As others have said the "analog style" clock display on the MRX35 is not as easy to read as a LED or LCD digital style clock. I also think the so-called permanent filter included with the MRX35 should have been a gold-tone metal mesh type and not a white polyester plastic mesh type. Based on 6 months of daily use I feel that the plastic polyester filter included with the MRX35 will not last as long as I'd like it to. I clean the Mr. Coffee MRX35's plastic filter daily with dish soap and water and the plastic filter is still stained a medium-dark brown and now has a wavy appearance to it rather than being flat on all four sides as it was when the plastic filter was new. The alternative to using the plastic filter included with the Mr. Coffee MRX35 is to use paper filters (it says in the included instruction manual you can do that) but you have to make sure that when you slide the square plastic basket filter holder into the MRX35 that the edges of the paper filter inside the filter holder have remained upright and have not collapsed, otherwise you will end up with coffee grounds in your coffee or worse yet some of the water will overspill onto your countertop. The actual color of the MRX35 is very dark brown, almost black in appearance. Note that Amazon.com also carries the Mr. Coffee MRX36 Coffee Maker in Red. Lastly, there is a strip of whitish-blue LED's located in a row on the back of the Mr. Coffee MRX35 that can be turned on or off as "accent lighting" for a dramatic effect. Instead of that feature I would have preferred a "Bright or Dim" setting for the MRX35's front LCD display backlighting. The LCD display backlight on the front of the Mr. Coffee MRX35 is bright enough that at night the light spills over from my kitchen into my adjoining living room area 20 feet away. Consider this could be an issue if you have a nearby television you watch at night in a dark or dimly lit room like I do (a Sony Bravia XBR KDL-46XBR6 46-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV). Other than the two minor complaints I mentioned (the unusual plastic filter and the lack of a "Bright/Dim" LCD display adjustment), I am very satisfied with my purchase of the MRX35 Heritage Series Coffee Maker in Brown. The MRX35 makes very good coffee, is easy to clean, easy to maintain and performs as expected. I recommend the purchase of the Mr. Coffee MRX35.

I really do hate to say it, but you really shouldn't waste your money on this machine. I read several negative reviews prior to purchasing mine...but went ahead and bought it anyway because I really liked the look of this coffeemaker. Since it was a Mr. Coffee I thought it couldn't be all that bad.Well, in some ways it isn't. The coffee was great and I liked alot of the features, however, it did have most of the problems reviewers complained about. It did indeed have an annoying signal to let you know the coffee is ready. It did in fact leak condensation from the corner of the filter basket. It's warmer plate did start to rust. I still liked it and could live with all those little annoyances. That is until I broke the carafe. I then began the search for a replacement. I thought it would be easy to replace since most Mr. Coffee replacement carafes are just a trip the store away...not so here. I looked in quite a few stores and could not find one. I even brought ones home that looked similar but they were too tall by a fraction of an inch. Then I called customer service for Mr. Coffee and was told it was no problem for them to send the correct one. I then happily waited for my replacement to arrive. I was not quite so happy when they sent me one of the same ones I had returned to the store. They tried again and sent the exact same WRONG thing again. (I even tried removing the black handle and lid and replacing them with the original brown handle and lid with no luck.) On my third call to customer service I was told that there are no replacements available for this machine and that there won't be in the future. The first two customer service reps were obviously incompetent and the third who actually gave me the bad news was the only one who listened and attempted to be helpful. I also checked Ebay for a replacement carafe to no avail. So please do not buy this machine unless you are certain that you will NEVER break the carafe. I'm on here now looking for a replacement.

We purchased this as a replacement to our 4-cup coffee maker for one reason alone: it was not huge. Our shelves give us just enough room for a toaster oven to sit on the counter top. As coffee lovers we were dismayed at the tallness of most coffee makers and were thrilled that Mr. Coffee made this. No problems with this model. We have enjoyed at least two brews a day for about a month and a half. Everyone remarks at how attractive the coffee maker is. Red makes a statement: drink coffee.

After a year of my DeLonge 12-cup I decided to donate it and buy a Mr. Coffee MRX36 in red. It is incredibly easy to use and program, has near-Italian styling, lots of features, and makes a fabulous cup of coffee--fast. I paid $61 and, now that I have experienced it, I would glady pay much more. You won't regret buying this well built coffee maker.

the folks that say it leaks are kinda right - you just have to be mindful when sliding the basket in. If you do it right, there aren't any problems. And when it's not totally pushed in, no problem - it's not like a huge leak.It comes with a permanant filter to reuse, but I can't stand washing it out. Just use the disposable round coffee filters. Clock, timer, auto on/off, cup warmer on top - so your coffee is piping. its a real stubby machine - fits great under our low counters - nice brown color. sharp little coffee maker, never seen one like this before. It works really well, I am recomending it.

After less than six months, something important in the electrical components has died. I have no idea how to fix it, but it has become a pretty big waste of $60 for me. It made a wonderful cup of coffee, quite mild and smooth and would have been great for the price if it had not broken immediately.

BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY!!!!!,
By
This review is from: Mr. Coffee Heritage Series 12-Cup Programmable Coffeemakers (Kitchen)
This coffeemaker makes absolutely wonderful coffee, and I was totally thrilled for the first 6 months. At about that 6 month mark, I went to make a pot of coffee, and the machine failed to respond to anything. Just that quick, the entire coffeemaker was dead. In the past, I have always declined extended warranties on small appliances since they either worked or didn't, and the extended warranties were such a high percentage of the original price, but in this case, oh, am I sorry. I absolutely LOVED the coffeemaker right up until the moment of its premature death, but for the price (this isn't a cheap coffemaker) I did expect more than 6 months out of it. I'm rather disgusted with its lifespan, and it has been replaced (for the moment) with an old fashioned stovetop percolater fished out of the camping supplies. I doubt I will buy another one of the same model, but if I did, definitely would buy the extended warranty! The only "negative" about the coffeemaker during its life was the design of the basket--it takes a bit more coffee than other basket designs. The reusable filter basket IS wonderful, no getting up for work on Monday morning and discovering that you are out of filters! The water filter is also a great feature, and I believe it contributes heavily to the high quality of the coffee it brewed in its short lifetime. For aesthetics, the coffeemaker is a great size and shape, a neat rectangle that doesn't occupy too much room. It didn't fit UNDER the cabinet, largely because of needing to pour in the water, and I don't like to have to move the coffemaker around a lot, but I found a location that worked. The removable basket filter is also a great feature, allowing me to easily dump the used grounds into the compost. Its too bad that there is some flaw in the design that allows it to die so soon and without warning, leaving the previously proud owner aggravated and disgusted. |
