This review is from: Mr. Coffee 6659 4 Cup Permanent Filter, (Filter does not include handle.)
Having purchased a Mr. Coffee 4-cup coffeemaker, I wasn't looking forward to buying packs of disposable filters. (My local grocery store doesn't even carry that small size!) I also don't like the waste of single-use filters. So, I was pleased to find this permanent filter. I've been using it for several months now, and my coffee always comes out just fine. The filter is easy to clean and, other than washing it after each use, there is no maintenance involved. Using this filter over time, you'll make up the cost of buying disposable ones, and you'll have that much less to toss in the garbage each time you brew a cuppa joe.

I found that the paper filters left an aftertaste, and are difficult to find. So in the interest of saving the environment just a little bit and having better tasting coffee, I purchased this filter. Granted, with shipping it was almost as much as the coffeemaker, but has been worth it. Much better tasting coffee, very easy to clean. I only wish it had little handles to lift it out of the coffeemaker, as it does fit snugly inside the filter basket.

I was excited to try a permanent filter in my coffee maker, but found that a permanent filter is too good to be true. The last cup of coffee will have a "sludge" of fine ground coffee that gets through the permanent filter. I have tried using both coffee that I have ground and coffee that is already ground. To get rid of the issue to have to use a paper filter with the permanent filter.

I ordered the permanent filter because the 4 cup unbleached paper filters are so hard to find. I really didn't expect it to be as good as the paper, but I must say that I've been really pleased. The only small disadvantage is that paper filters are easy to dispose of, where this has to be rinsed off everytime and with our trying to conserve water, I wonder if I'm really "going green" using it.

This $2.49 filter has a $5 shipping charge and you can't get out from under that. So, just accept that and order it anyway. The paper filters for this coffeemaker are not available in any grocery stores in my area, and they are expensive on Amazon. So, I ordered the permanent filter when I ordered the coffeemaker. Despite a much later delivery date assigned to the filter, they arrived on the same day. A handle would be superfluous - - even my 63-year-old fingers can easily get the filter out of the basket without any problems. I haven't noticed any grounds escaping the filter, personally. It seems to work quite nicely. It is a little more fragile than I expected so in a year or two I will probably need to order another.

I've been using this filter for almost 2 weeks now and love it! Brewed coffee tastes the same as when I was using paper filters, if not better. As some reviewers have mentioned, it's not a tight fit. However, I've had no issues with weaker coffee or water brewing straight through. Wait for the coffee grinds to dry out a little before disposing - comes right out of the filter with a few good shakes.

It's a bit too small for a customized filter,

It's a coffee filter, it's metal, and it filters coffee and the taste is slightly superior to paper filter taste. There normally would be no complaints from me, but it is about an inch and a half too small for the coffee pot it is designed for, so it moves around inside it. The reason this irks me is because it was made as a custom filter FOR a specific coffee pot, yet it doesn't even fit it properly? what kind of crap is this? it might be nitpicking as it still works fine, but there shouldnt be a 1 inch gap around it for it to move around, it should be a perfect fit for the coffee pot it was CRAFTED for... also, this shouldve came WITH mr coffee's coffeepot rather than be sold separately. since it's cheap and works good its a 3 star, but it couldve been a 5 if it were proper fitting and a pack-in like one would expect. still even, its cheap, go buy it, just don't expect mr coffee to last forever....

After buying the Mr. Coffee JWX9 5-Cup Programmable Coffeemaker, Black with Stainless Steel Carafe the only thing missing to make that coffee maker perfect was a permanent filter. I made a guess that the 4 cup permanent filter would fit... and it does!
I use regular old Folgers Colombian coffee in the filter, not the finest ground coffee but I don't see any of it escaping. Unlike a Black and Decker that I owned, this filter has plastic on the bottom, forcing the coffee out the sides of the filter when being made (something I'm told is important to a good permanent filter). Cleanup is not annoying for me since I have a garbage disposal that I rinse it out into, but I imagine it could be a pain without one. All and all, happy not to have to buy and waste paper filters.

Not good for people who like strong coffee,

The bottom of this is plastic (not mesh) so if you like your coffee strong, you can't put enough grounds or the whole thing will overflow and make a mess.

How cheap has the world gotten when they can't include a 2 cent plastic rod handle with this over priced filter? There are even drilled out holes for where the handle goes into. Unbelievable!
